Strike Reported Southeast of Moab . I And now comes the report that the Union Oil company of California has struck oil in the Lisbon well No. 1, located about forty miles southeast of Moab. It is said that the oil strata was Thursday or Friday of last depth of about 2,550 feet, when a heavy flow of gas was re- leased, later the hole filled with oil The reported strike has not yet been confirmed by members of the company ind the drilling crew have kept the discovery veiled in secrecy for a couple of days and it was not until this railing that the first news of the strike leaked out. Coming from Den-rheadquarters ofthe company last night, W. D. Spurman, general superintendent of the company, passed through Moab en route to the well, ring been met at Thompson by E. pierced on veek at a I cr H. of Spiker, field superintendent All the Union employees are now at camp, and as there is no telephone connection there, obtained. The information details cannot be that the strike is township thirty, south range east. Well has been ng in salt from 1620 to 2500 feet when I caing was set on a lime stratum caprock. It was shortly af- .jllfag was resumed with the h string that the oil stratum twenty-fiv- e drilli- ju-inc- tapped. Tiymg A I. Its generul contours, in the Spanish style, have a suggestion of elegance yet the house could be built on s small dry lot. The high, teamed celling of the living room, the tall window In the stair hall, the open patio all are details that add to Its charm. as well as beauty, evidently governed the selection of materials. The walls are of concrete masonry, covered with port-lan- d cement stucco, and the roof la concrete tile. The floors are also of concrete, carrying with them the assurance that no fire of Interior origin can spread. Surfacing of the concrete floors has been carried out in keeping with the Interior design of the various rooms. The picture In the oval shows a section of the living room where the black and white squared floor surfacing gives the room a definite snap and character without In any way destroying Its rest fulness. A second floor hnlcony overlooks the high living room another feature rarely found In small houses. This arrangement, of course, limit the spnrp on the second floor, hut it is presumed that adequate facilities In the way of bedrooms have been nrovhled. St. Until quite recently, employment of copper in building construction has been confined almost entirely to office and public structures where its value from the standpoint of permanence has been well recognized. The building public being uninformed as to relative costs, has generally disregarded the possibility of using copper to any extent in residential work. The Utah Copper company has recently laid out a new townsite about two miles from its mine, and is constructing dwellings - thereon for its employes, using copper wherever practical. Careful records of costs were kept, with the result that it is now known that the use of copper and its alloys increases the cost of an average four or dwelling only 5.8 per cent, or an average increase of $31.09 per building. The increasing use of copper, lead and zinc in all kinds of construction work is encouraging western metal mines, the successful development and operation of which is so essential to proper industrial progress in this na- 2420 I'd-- I'l'CO fmUh, prai'tlually naw tiraa.
