Show Sportscaster Frank Gifford honored with award ABC Sportscaster Frank Gifford, a former college All- America and football player, has been named the recipient of the 1977 annual award of the Touchdown Club of New York and will be honored at the club's 43rd annual awards dinner, Friday, March 18, at the New York University All-Pr- o Club. announcer on "ABCs Gifford, the popular Night Football," joins such other noted per-sonalities as Gen. Douglas MacArthur, Gen. Omar Bradley, Weeb Ewbank, Bud Wilkinson, Paul Bear Bryant and Don Shula, who also have been so honored with the Touchdown play-by-pl- Monday Club award, which is presented to an individual who has made a contribution of permanent value to the sport of football. The award comes one month after Gifford was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Gifford is also a member of the National Football Foundation (college Hall of Fame). He gained honors at the University of Southern California where he quarterback and single wing performed as a halfback and as a defensive back.
