Lashbrook died at Bingham ou Sunday, and io yesterday'a Herald the funeral was announced to take plAce on Thursday, Thurs-day, at the residence of James Kendall, Ken-dall, Jordan street. Tbe body was brought to the city on Wodoeslay evening, and conveyed to Kendall's house, wbere it rematuod, the friends and relatives of the deceased beginning to assemble about 11 o'clock for tho purpose ol paying their last respects to the dead. It appears that immediately after tha1 death of Mr, Lashbrook HUBpicions of foul play were aroused among some of the near rolativea, it being insiuu-ated insiuu-ated that the husband had occaHioned his wife's death by cruelly beating her. The result of the huspicions and damaging iutinmtions wns the holding hold-ing before a Bingham justice of an informal investigation, when, it i neserted, the testimony bIiowhI that death had been hastened by 0 improper means. Howevei , this did not aeem to aatisfy all of the friends, notably a rouplu cf the brothers-in-law, James Koudatl and Dr. Judd of Bingham. Tue de ceased, the relatives mentioned, and others ot tbe families were spiritualists, spiritual-ists, and the gathering yesterday was composed chiefly of spiritualists. Early in the meeting there were whisperings and queer actions among those present, when finally Mr. Kendall Ken-dall stated that the fuoeral would not proceed until an investigation and j post mortem examination had been I held. Kendall Btood by the head of the corpse, and claiming to be actuated and moved upou by spiritual influences, would strike out with his fiats wildly, throwing his hands in the facea and about tbe heads of the women presunt. This was interpreted by some to imply that Mrs. Lash brook had been beaten to death. A gentleman friend of the family siezed Kendall, to hold him, when the latter became very much excited, and made some threats. The police were finally called in, and the coroner arrived and took charge of tbe body. Drs. Hamilton and White, who had also bei-n summoned, appeared and made an external examination to discover, if possible, evidences of foul play. They reported I that they were unable to find any such evidence. Finally, after several hours of these strange proceedings and queer conduct, the body was conveyed to the cemetery, and de posited in .the dead vault, where a post mortem examination is to be held this morning at 10 o'clock. |
