With Rand Clark fixing his eagle eye on the hoop for 18 points and Duane Mecham and Garth Ford performing grand and petty larceny with the ball every time Granite got their hands on it, the visitors never had a chance. Bulldogs Strike Fut Granite went into an early, lead as Dick Ence, speedy center, caged two foul pitches, but these were the only points Granite got all quarter. After about two minutes had elapsed the Bulldogs found the range for 11 straight points and after that It was merely a question of how much the score would be. Granite got their first field goal in the second period and with the help of three foul pitches actually outscored the Bulldogs, who were held to two field goals. Granite staged a rally in the final period but the Bulldogs caught fire again and with the aid of baskets by Mecham and Clark again took command of the race. Granite rangier crew managed man-aged to hold a little more than than their own on the bankboards. but once the ball got down onto the playing floor they had a hard time keeping hold of it. Provo's flashy guards, Mecham and ord covered the floor and the Granite player's like a blanket, and al though Granite was off in their shooting they didn't get too good of an opportunity for a clear shot. Dick Ence, Granite's all state center was held to six points by the close guarding Ford, and his inability to hit the hoop put Granite in the hole right from the start. It was the Bulldogs' seventh straight victory, and it was Coach Glen Simmons' answer to the idea that Provo was just lucky to beat Granite the first time, a theory that gained some credence in the Salt Lake area. Clark's 18 point performance was the best of the year for the diminutive southpaw. He caged eight out of nine foul pitches and! five field goals to roll up exactly half of the team total. Ford and Mechan), with seven and four, respectively re-spectively were next in line. For Granite, the six point total caged by Ence led the parade, with Glyn Peterson with five and Rigby with four following him in scoring.
