liberty which an animated mated our fathers no longer survives we do not believe believer this is true We Ve believe the spirit of patriotism patriot patriot- ism to be as strong trong in the hearts of Americans Americans- day to-day as as it w was as a hundred years ago agor It haw has been so ever and it will be so in the future future- Let the young men of our land but see tha that that- there has recently been set on foot which it is hoped will unite thousands of 3 young ou g m men n throughout the Union into one ne gre great great- t league for the purpose of studying American institutions and cultivating true truelove love Jove of country independent of creed or part party The movel movement began at Milford Delaware and has already spread until twelve States and four four forty universities and colleges are cn t d. d fA A temporary organization of the local league of this Territory was effected by bra bya a number of students mostly members of the Delta Phi S Society last Tuesday Each member is pledged to spread the principles of the of-the the league and it is that this is all that will be necessary to 10 secure the operation co-operation of hundreds of students as well as as' other young men throughout through through- out Jut the Territory We Ve give below an n outline of Jf the principles of the National Columbian League as hed by the national committee own- of free thought and aims to increase his inov knowledge ledge that his convictions may be the surer and strengthened by reason The false citizen loses his individuality which is the stamp of cities We Ve young men are to face the danger fearlessly if we hope to beat it back ack We Ve must stand shoulder to shoulder and we must stand intelligently We Ve have numerous associations in this country country country coun coun- try religious and social and many of them are powerful We Ve have no association with a apolitical apolitical apolitical political purpose It If may may be we have wrongly interpreted the drift ot ot- political sentiment and the value of party affiliation and this misinterpretation misinterpretation has hindered a union under a loyal national intention The realization that there is a patriotism that lifts a man above sectionalism sectionalism sectionalism section section- into the light of a devotion to his country and to o her ideals must be the real patriotism of our pur s ur hearts It is in the hope of binding together together together to to- gether thousands of young Americans in a a. a sympathy that is at once intelligent and active that the Columbian League announces itself as political without party A sure good must result if men may be confederated in a League that aims only at the general welfare irrespective ive of personal advance We have heard men say say in in the office on the street in the c cars that cars that they would willingly join a movement that had but one national goal purity of national life We Ve have questioned questioned questioned ques ques- them and found them sincere in their statements We Ve know there is a grand moral force in this beloved land of ours that needs but the impetus of loyalty to make it educational purpose Any man who desires to increase his usefulness as a citizen citizen citizen citi citi- zen may become a member We Ve have no caste no limitations We Ve simply require loyalty is supreme with every possibility of advancement No hindrance will wall be placed in the thc way vay of a member who ho proves pro himself able to hold a prominent place either in politics in lite
