Show C"""" " """ - I,"" MWI,U U POULTRY I A REMEDY FOR FAULTY MARKET MAR-KET CONDITIONS. By C. G. Patterson, Mgr., Brook Ranch Commission Co. In our last week's paper we noted some of the conditions that govern the local egg market and -promised to discuss a remedy. The prevailing opinion among producers pro-ducers is that a distinction should be made in the quality of eggs. In other oth-er wordb, that the quality should govern the price. This idea is gradually grad-ually taking hold of the grocers and wc find a number of them placing their product to their trade in cartons car-tons containing one dozen each. These cartons arc lettered with such sentences 'as "Strictly Fresh Eggs." "These Eggs arc Guaranteed not over 8 hours old." "This Carton contains con-tains Eggs That arc Shipped Fresh every Day " etc., etc., while one firm is endeavoring to establish a trade on eggs bearing a specific brand. Wc have investigated thoroughly these , various schemes and find that the dealer puts out what he has got regardless re-gardless of its Freshness. The consequence con-sequence is that the public is getting wise to their schemes and ignore the claims icy make. In ou judgment the dealers, are on the right track as. to method, but are unable to carry their ideas into successful practice, because of their inability to get the; right quality of eggs. The method that wc have followed is to put our product in cartons, one . dozen each and seal them for the protection of the customer. Our cartons car-tons are lettered: ONE DOZEN EGGS GUARANTEED ., STRICTLY FRESH If seal is unbroken. , BROOK. RANCH COM -GOV, 551 So. State St. In the blank space provided wc insert the color of the eggs, brown or white. By taking this method the customer is fully protected against imposition by the seal as our guarantee gua-rantee fails to cover if the seal is broken. By being extremely careful not to place anything but Strictly Fresh Eggs in cartons wc have sue- I cccdcd in establishing a trade that I demands our product. There is no question but that conscientious service serv-ice couplcd'with plenty of hustle will increase our trade to an extent that wc will be enabled to handle practically practic-ally the entire output of strictly fresh eggs in the Intcrmountain Country during the WSnlcr 'Months. This scheme can be carried out by anyone that has the facilities for doing so but in order to make it successful there has got to be some unity on the rart of the producers. It must be carried out on a larger scale than any 'one producer is able to undertake. under-take. Furthermore should the market mar-ket become flooded with a variety of brands of eggs put out by a great number of producers and dealers there will be found that among the lot there are a few unscrupulous ones that will injure the others by reason of the inferior quality of their pro-.duct; pro-.duct; ,Vc bolievc, .however, that if IhiS itlon is carried out by the uniting of the leading producers in the mar- ! kcting of their product through a central .house that conditions will be very mvfch bettered so fnr as eggs arc concerned. What is true of eggs is likewise truo of poultry. . The long and short of the matter is getting clqscr together. u |
