Show WALTER COLLIER fun fun- eral eaI held Wednesday Walter Valter Collier Services Held II Here ere Wednesday Funeral services for Walter Collier 76 time long resident of the Uintah Basin who died Sun Sun- Sunday Sunday day at the Uintah County lies lies- Hospital pital following a heart attack were held Wednesday at 10 am in the Vernal 2nd Ward Chapel lie was born October 3 1888 in Provo Prove a son of Joab and Theodocia Keeler Collier lie He came to Vernal in the early summer of 1890 with his par par- eats and his six brothers and sisters He was the seventh child in a family of sixteen On August 30 1 11 he marr- marr married married Elizabeth Southam in the Salt Lake Temple Tempe They had 5 children one son and four daughters THE EARLY years yeats of their marriage were spent at Bonan- Bonan Bonanza Bonanza za Gilsonite mine where he worked in the mine and also operated the Boarding House He will be remembered by bythe bythe the old time residents of Ver- Ver Vernal Vernah nah nal as the owner and operator of the Collier Coal Mine As it became necessary for the chil- chil children children dren to attend school in town he leased the mine and operated a trucking business for some sometime sometime time In the summer of 1930 he and his wife opened the Collier Furniture Co which they oper- oper operated operated for 23 years Upon retiring from the furniture business Mr Collier devoted his time to his church work and farming BEING an active member of o othe the Church all of his life he served in many capacities among which were the Elders Quorum Presidency in which he served for twelve years and more recently he was See Sec of the High Priests Quorum lIe He also served two Stake Missions He was also an active ward teacher He is survived by his widow four daughters Mrs Brigham Nellie McConkie Mrs Ben Wanda Richards Mrs Royal Winnie Mrs Keith Li- Li Lila LIla la Caldwell Caidwell all of Vernal 20 grandchildren 20 great grand children brothers and sister Mrs May Carpenter Salt Lake City Theodore Collier Provo Mrs Mabel Winward and Frank CoWer Collier both of Vernal Prayer at the mortuary was given by Theodore Collier Mrs Melba Sargent played the pre pre- prelude prelude lude and postlude music liar liar- Harmon mon gave the invocation invocation tion Homer Robertson of the 2nd ward bishopric conducted the services Phillip Watkins and harold E were the speakers Frank Walker Ralph Walker Marva Lent and Lois Erickson sang 0 My Father and I Need Thee Every Hour Mr and Mrs Glade sang That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine William Morton Jr gave the benediction and Victor Wilkins dedicated the grave Burial was in the Vernal Mem- Mem Memorial Memorial orial Park Cemetery PALLBEARERS were Lloyd Swain Alma Jones Charles Me- Me Conkie Conrad Evans Calvin Jones and Wayne CalvinI I There were many town out visitors at the funeral |
