The girls found themselves in a tie for the regular season conference championship. They traveled to Flagstaff on Tuesday to play the St. Michael Cardinals in a playoff for the title. Fredonia clung to an eight point lead in the fourth quarter, but St. Michael overcame the deficit and beat the Lynx in the waning minutes of the game. This put St. Michaels into the state tournament automatically as regular season conference champions. Since Fredonia lost, they were to be the 2 seed in the region tournament that, was held in Ash Fork. In the first game, the Lynx battled the 7 seed Grand Canyon Phantoms. It was no contest for Fredonia, who destroyed them In the 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday, the Lady Lynx took on the Seligman Antelopes, with the winner playing later that evening in the championship 71-3- 7. game. The Lady Lynx took the opening tip, scored, and never looked oack, as they dominated the game Three hours later in the championship game, Fredonia found themselves playing the Joe City Wildcats, who upset the 1 seed St. Michael Cardinals in the other semi-fingame. This meant Fredonia had to win the championship to go to state. Championship games are supposed to be exciting, and this was no different, as the Lynx prevailed 59-5- 7 in overtime. Both teams played well in the first quarter, with the score knotted at 3 after one. In the second quarter, the Lynx led by six with three minutes to go until the half. The Wildcats scored the last six points of the quarter to tie it up at halftime.
