Coalville Station Fire Fighters have been involved in extensive training during the past year in order to receive .their Firefighter I Certification. South Summit Middle School students presented the Broadway hit musical Bye Bye Birdie". Everyone who had a hand in the presentation gave their all to make it a stunning production. An LDS Missionary from Morgan, Jonathan Phillip Barrett. 19 was slain while serving in Abidjan, Ivory Coast of Africa. He and a companion were sitting under an awning while wailing to go to an appointment, when a man walked past them. The man later returned anJ slabbed Barrett and after being taken to a hospital he passed away. His companion said "Jon was a worthy person in this sickness of the world." Thomas S. Monson of thc:LDS First Presidency and other General Authorities attended the laige funeral services. Summit County Dairy Princess royalty was chosen. Jan Rowley of Kamas joined The Summit County Bee staff as a correspondent. A 1986 graduate of South Summit, she obtained a in Bachelor's Degree Communications with a Business Administrations Minor from Utah Slate. She and her husband. Dave, have 2 children, Alecia, 7, and Jace 18 months. The NS "Braves" Track Team won the 2A Region Title with 216 points. In 2nd place was Juab with 142 points. The team then went on to take the Stake Title the following week. The Slate Democratic Party held community voiced their sadness as seeing these three great examples step down as they gase their talent, effort and time so willingly to the students education. Miss congeniality is Ashley Simpson of Kamas. The Summit County Historical Society was proud to host a "panel dedication" in Echo, next to the old Echo schoolhouse. The four panels depict various parts of local history . One tells of the life of John 11. Weber who helped bring settlers westward. Another tells of the Mormon exodus to Utah, starting in Nauvoo. James Bromley was the first settler to arrive in Echo and people can read a little about his life. And then, there are historical tacts about the city of Echo itself. Andrea McNeil was awarded the Annual Community Service Award by the Kamas Valley Rotary Club. Teaching health, first aid. health tvcupations. P E.. Yearbook, and serving as aJviscr to the Cheerleading Squad at South Summit are only a few of her "jobs". She also serves as an EMT tor the ambulance, gives guidance and encouragement to the students and acts as a disc joskey for various events when neeJed. Her Iave for the Youth is listed as one of her top attributes. The "bones" which the Summit County Sheriffs Office have been caretakers of for the past 30 years were given to family members of Issue "Ike" Putter. Although not officially confirmed by the State (through testing) to be those of the man. the circumstances were overwhelming that they are. Sheriffs Blotter The Summit County Sheriffs dept has been busy with calls relating to domestic disputes, thefts, simple assaults and accidents due to weather related conditions. A theft charge was reported when a shortage was discovered in a till at a business in the Kimball's Junction area. Employee interviews were conducted. A driver who parked a new car at the Outlet Mall region while she went to her place of employment, returned after closing the store to find it had been damaged by someone running into it. She could not see the vehicle from inside the store. Information was given to an officer. A resident called to say her license plate had been removed from her vehicle sometime during the night hours. She was advised to get new plates and that hers would be registered with NCIC in the event they were used for a crime. A livestock concern call was registered. When officers responded it was found the animals were ok, but needed to be fed more often. Ow ners responded to the request from the Sheriffs Office. The owner of a snow blower found it missing from his garage. Cost estimated at $830.00. K-- 9 sniff searches" were completed on both the North and South Summit High School lockers with no drugs being indicated. A call was made to dispatch say ing that someone was trying to sell Warren Miller tickets in a parking lot at The Canyons. When officers arrived the person was gone. It was reported that an individual came into a gas station, paid for $3.00 worth of gas, filled the vehicle w ith the fuel purchased but then drove off with the nozzle still attached. EXvIlar amount of damage was approximately $60.00. In yet another gas skip, someone pul $2 1 .00 worth of gas in their vehicle then left the nozzle on the ground. This is the second time such an event has occurred in recent months at the same location. It is believed the same person was involved in both incidents. A young teenage driver was cited for Negligent Collision after hitting a bike rider on the fog line. The victim suftcievl a broken back and was transported to a Salt Lake hospital. From New South Wales, the biker was preparing to participate in the World Cup Ski Tour to be held in January. A tow company was called to remove a vehicle that was sitting in the middle of the road with its flashers on. An officer tried to reach the owner but it could not be accomplished at the lime. |
