Show T C . i fl n n By Bliss SunTimot, February 6, 1980, Pago Fullmer In a unique situation at the dual wrestling Weber-Ko- match, the Warriors were leading by a scant four points going into the final bout. Weber s Lyle Hamp was wrestling in his first ever varsity match filling in for heavyweight Brian Harris who was injured. Hamp had been told that 'he match was close and he reasoned that he had to win, to preserve the victory for Weber. Lyle admits that he was out of shape, and after the match he was totally exhausted, but, by not allow ing his Roy opponent the pin, or even a superior decision, he won the dual meet for his Warriors. The final score was for Weber over Roy. The Royals won only five of the twelve matches, in the dual meet, hour of their five victories came on pins. Had John Cummings been able to pin his opponent in the unlimited bracket, it would have been a team victory for Roy and he came so close. Even a superior decision would have done the job. If a wrestler scores twelve points more than his opponent, he is given a five point, superior decision. Roy needed four points to tie, and five to win. Cummings won the match The Royals do not have a 98 pound wrestler and thus forfeit six points in that weight division. Roy wrestlers w ho got pins were Greg Hipwell ( 105), with victories over slipped to Clearfield and Bonneville. Both teams will enter the Region One tournament, Thursday at Layton High School. Layton High staked claim to the 1980 Dual Meet Championship with a 50-- 6 victory over helpless Bonneville High last Thursday night. The Lancers paved the way to victory with the consistency they have shown all season long. They finished record. with a Clearfield, usually a power in Region One wrestling, didnt fare so well this season. The Falcons wrapped up a 5 season with a 5 loss to Sky View. There have been bright spots in the Clearfield Season with the emergence of several younger wrestlers. Two of them are Cliff Vaterlaus and Steve Uliberri. These two should be strong contenders in the Region One meet to be staged at Layton this week. The Warriors lost one match on a strange quirk of fate. At the 155 weight division, Webers Eric Burton had n on Roys Jay gained a Winward, and had him in a pinning situation, good for two extra points. Thats when both wrestlers were on the mat with their leg pointed to the ceiling, and the Warrior lost the bout on a defensive pin. He pinned himself, with a little help from Winward. I know the move off that particular, smiled Jay Winnward, and hold, maneuvered him into pinning himself. This is Winwards second experience in getting an opponent to pin himself, and ironically the other one was scored against Weber, last year. Weber finished 2 in Region One for dual meets, this year.
