huntsville op 07 THE NEW MEETING v noush house sundays july jtb ath IM 1883 will a al ways be a memorable day in the history of on which day the now meeting house recently erected by the good folks of that town was wag dedicated in uie fie presence of the first presidency of the other othor zt and a large concourse of people president taylor tay lor and party arrived in the town at bro on saturday evening they were tainted by the brass band and met by a large number of the citizens who were drawn up in n line in front of the meeting hou house 24 sa where an arch of welcome had 24 been en prepared be bearing aring the words 6 welcome gods chosen the president and party were driven to the residence of bishop P F A ham mond anond where a reception recep loa ioa was held at which the old and young were heartily greeted the new bul bui building bullying laing is a beautiful structure the dimensions are 70 x 35 feet on the inside insides 19 feletto feet to the square with an arched ceiling it has a tower and steeple on the outside it Is 21 24 feet to the 98 feet from the ground to the top of the steeple it has a vestry attached to the north end the di 1 mansions men mens lons ions of which are IS 18 by 24 feet in the bouth south end 19 is is 19 a large gallery with a seating capacity of about the hause bauso proper will seat about the beats seats furniture and all the woodwork are home made and vory ory very ery neat the building is lighted by nive five gothic windows on each side bide and two at the south end it Is built of adobe and brick is plastered and painted on the outside and has hns twelve columns capped with white stone atone supporting it the grounds are neatly fenced and surrounded by trees presenting a beautiful appearance fhe the cost of the building ilsoo includes everything pertaining to the building furnishings organ I 1 chandeliers stoves fencing ot at the grounds and everything to make the house houte one of comfort to the saints tiie wile erection of such a building by the people of a ar small smail settlement like huntsville la is a very creditable and praiseworthy undertaking the tha building was wag commenced in the spring of 1879 and now novy that it ib Is ia entirely completed and dedicated the saints of huntsville have just cause to be proud of so beautiful a place of worship the meetinghouse meeting house la Is one of the finest in the stake and will vill answer the purpose for lon which it has been erected for many years to come Atthe at the services on sunday morning moraine there were mero present on t the a stand presidents johw dohn th T h rp al Q cannon cannons asid and joe job P F smith I 1 president t D L john nuttall president jacob gates and abram HC annons annon elders john irvine henry gro oro grow of salt lake city also apostle P F D richards ble rie hards presidents ii W shurtliff 0 P F middleton and N 0 ely Ply flygare rare Kare elders P F S richards BIc elc hards ii P F monch and richard ballan balian tyne tynes of ogden besides bishops and elders from nearly all the settle ments monts in the county the meeting was called to order at sit 10 a am m by bishop P F A ham mond who after the usual opening exercises and during the administration of the sacrament read a short sketch of the history of the building of the house Pies president ident taylor then made a few opening remarks after which president joseph F smith offered the dedicatory prayer the aud audience lence was then ad dressed by president george Q cannons cannon president wilford wood runn moir and elder jacob gates gateb after which the meeting adjourned until ibo p in between meetings the visitors repaired to the old school house and partook oyt olt of dinner three large tables were spread the tables were beautifully laid out and were replete with everything of a nature to tempt the appetite and gladden the eye the dinner was arranged by the ladies at af the relief society and improvement and it certainly reflected great credit upon all those i who had the bu business in ch charge 8 rge about persons partook of the repast the afternoon meeting waa was addressed by president joseph F smith and president john taylor the president and party left iet let huntsville Hunts vilie ville at and in one hour and forty minutes arrived at ogden depot the party then boarded the glo gio pm train arriving in salt lake nake city at the visit to huntsville was enjoyed by all and the dedication of the new deett meeting house thore there will long be remembered by the residents res reb identa of ogden valley
