Show MORE legislation senator edmunds tries his hand acain at makins laws for utah A special telegram to the salt lake herald gives the following particulars about alie new bill relating to utah introduced trod by senator edmunds last wednesday the new bill for utah introduced by senator edmunds yesterday was printed today to day it abolish es the existing election districts and apportionments of members of the legislative assembly of butali and provides also that as poon as the result of the census of that territory for 1890 shall be made known the governor the and the utah commission shall redistrict re district the territory and apportion representatives to the council and house of representatives so as to provide as nearly as may be for an equal representation of people apportionment shall I 1 continue until congress shall otherwise provide xo persons other than the citizens of the united states and otherwise qualified shall be entitled to vote at any election in said territory the offices of territorial auditor and treasurer commissioners to locate university lands probate judges county dorks selectmen assessors recorders and superintendents ten dents of district schools are to be vacated and all such officers shall be appointed by the governor of said territory by and with the advice and consent of the utah commission but when any officer holds his office by virtue of appointment from the president he all all continue in office until the expiration of his term the commission ig authorized in its discretion to cause new registrations 61 voters to be made instead of i of previsions lists as now required by the laws of utah staid board is also authorized authorised and empowered to make and enforce rules and regulations not inconsistent with the aws of the united states for the conduct of registrations and elections in said territory the bill was referred to the committee on the judiciary aa senator edmunds is chairman of that committee it virtually means referring the measure to himself |
