Show WOMEN'S COUNCIL COMMITTEE MEETS Reports on Work Throughout Through-out Utah Submitted at Conference. More than seventy-five representatives of women's organizations of Utah were present yesterday morning at a meeting of the Utah division of the women's committee com-mittee of tlie Council of National Defense. De-fense. The conference was called for the purpose of discussing questions vital to tho defense cause. Mrs. W. N. Williams, chairman of the committee, was In charge. Dr. W. C. Ebaugh, secretary of the state council of defense, addressed the assemblage on the subject of "Child Welfare Wel-fare Work," while Mrs. AY. Mont Ferry spoke on the "Third Dlberty Loan." Miss KaLe Williams, a state Red Cross officer, gave a brief statement dealing with "Foreign Relief," while Miss Gertrude Gert-rude McCheyne, a member of the faculty of the Agricultural college, spoke on "Food Administration." Mrs. Edward Bichsel, president o the State Federation Federa-tion of Women's clubs, was present, and gave an interesting report of the educational educa-tional phase of the committee's work. Mrs. Lancaster. representing colored women's organizations of the 6tate, reported re-ported that in Salt Lake City aione 250 colored women were enrolled for patriotic and war charities work. Mrs. Mattie S. Turner of Morgan reported that of the pine towns In Morgan county seven had reported 100 per cent registration for patriotic pa-triotic work. "While the women's committee of the Council of National Defense was in conference, con-ference, delegates of county councils of defense met in tlie ballroom of the Hotel Utah. Acting Governor Harden Bennion welcomed the delegates, while Chairman Heber J. Grant of the Liberty loan drive committee presented facts and figures connected with the bond campaign. In the interest of food and fuel conservation conserva-tion W. W. Armstrong, state administrator administra-tor of the food and fuel department, addressed ad-dressed the gathering. He paid particular particu-lar attention to the necessity of a full coal bin, and urged that the winter's sunply be acquired now. Various phases of the council's operations opera-tions were detailed by Vice Chairman W. R. Wallace and Secretary "W. C. Ebaugh. Arrangements for holding a general conference con-ference of state war workers, May 17 and IS, as suggested by Washington war administrators, was left with the defense council's executive committee. At this meeting speakers of national prominence will be called upon. |
