Private First Class Niel Arns-pigfrom Ft. Louis Washington, arrived in Sunnydale on Wednesday, December 21st. He stayed with his brother-in-laand sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Howa until Saturday, December 24th. At that time they all went to to Grand Junction, Colorado, spend Christmas with Mr. Howas family and friends. Each one of the rooms at the Sunnyside school had a lovely Christmas party Friday afternoon. The students drew names to exchange gifts; the teachers had gifts and favors for their students furnished and the refreshments. Curtis, president of the sons of pioneers, has announced that Marion Duff Hanks, assistant director of the bureau of information on Temple square, will serve as state chairman of Know Your Utah week this year, assisted by Franklin D. Richards as Salt Lake chairman and William L. Pullsipher as publicity director. Slogan for the event this year is Boost Your State by Knowing Her Story. In a statement of the objectives of Know Your Utah week, Mr. Hanks listed as a major aim of the observance the encouragement of all citizens of Utah to learn the story of their state, its unique and inspiring history, its natural resources, its progress and development, its future possibilities, and its important place among its sister states. Every Utahn a participating citizen is our goal, said Mr. Hanks. The sons of Utah pioneers are seeking to make the teaching of the fundamental facts about Utah a part of our regular educational procedure. to Mr. Pulsipher, According state director for Know Your Utah week, moving picture films for use by schools, clubs or other organizations may be obtained for use during Know Your Utan week by writing to the bureau of information, Temple square, Salt Lake City. Know Your Utah week was inaugurated some years ago as a statewide project of the sons of Wallace Mortuary Phone : the youngsters in both communities. They all gathered at the Christmas tree in front of the Wasatch confectionery in Sunny- -j side and at the tree in front of the shopping center at Sunnydale. The Sunnyside Kiwanis club arranged with Santa for this visit, The ladies on Edgehill drive called on two of their neighbors last' week and helped Jiem celebrate their birthdays as is the custom in this neighborhood. On Wednesday, December 21st. It was Corinne Hyatt, whose birthday they celebrated and on Friday, December 23rd. it was Mrs. Helen Markosek. The grand opening of Ihe Nu- Star theatre in Sunnydale was a huge success. Even the standing room was sold out and many were turned away. After the first show the lights came on and Mr. LeGrande Graham, the manager, took to the stage to extend a welcome to all the patrons and thanked them for attending. Then with the help of two boys he distributed many lovely ticket prizes. Mr. Bug Preston won the turkey; Mr. large Chauncey Taylor, an electric juicer, and Mr. Pete Stayonoff, an electric coffee maker.
