Show MILES CANNON PRAISES UTAH I COUNTY SOIL Miles Cannon, U. S. government field commissioner of agriculture, addressed about thirty farmers from Sprincville and Mapleton at the SprinevHle city hall Saturday evening even-ing February 23, on the Strawberry wnter project. In prefneing his remarks Mr. Cannon Can-non congratulated the citizens of the district on their future possibilities in regard to a great industrial growth, "I think you are the richest project pro-ject in the United States so far as natural resources are concerned," he said," and if these mineral deposits and coal deposits and other natural recourses were on the Pacific coast, a city of one million population ' would spring up in no time." In speaking: of the Strawberry project Mr. Cannon said. "The' practical control and management j uf all government projects should be managed by the water users. The! trcmhle with reclamation is that thej government as well as the farmers wore inexperienced, the first stages j were largely experimental." He stated that the farmers were in a Imd condition after the war and not able to meet their obligations to the government, hence a factfinding fact-finding committee was appointed by the government to find out the facts and make recommendations. lie said that it was estimated that three and j one half million dollars' loaned to t the farmers on the Strawberry project. pro-ject. Mr. Cannon recommended that the : people under the project who own the water and pay the taxes get to- i pother in an organization and co-1 operate with each other and make' some kind of proposition to the government gov-ernment that the government might; adjust things for the best advantage I to take care of the conditions. |
