Show BASIN PLANNING BIG CONVENTION Three Days' Industrial Program Pro-gram to Be Given Opening Open-ing on July 29. FORT DUCHESNE, July 18. The second annual Uintah basin industrial in-dustrial convention will be held at Fort Duchesne July 29, 30 and 31. The first convention held a year ago had an average attendance of 4000 farmers, stockmen and merchants mer-chants daily from all parts of the great basin. The purpose of the convention is three-fold : Instruction, recreation and entertainment. The adopted slogan is "Know the problems of the basiu better." In the 'shade of the numerous trees on the beautiful old fort grounds the visitors will enjoy a delightful de-lightful three days' outing, camping on the lawns and motoring each evening to one of the near-by towns. During these three days they will be instructed by demonstrations and lectures by some of the best experts in the entire country along the various var-ious lines of industry in which the people of the great basin are engaged. en-gaged. No admission will be charged to anything. Some of the principal speakers for this year are Dr. Elmer G. Peterson, Peter-son, president of the Utah Agricul-I Agricul-I tural college and twelve specialists ;from the extension service of tbe college; col-lege; Dr. George Thomas, president of the University of Utah, with three specialists who will bring moving mov-ing picture machines with which to entertain and instruct those attending attend-ing nud also specialists in play work and woman specialists for junior children's recreation work; Dr. F. S. Harris of the B. Y. rj.', with a recreational worker and an agronomist ; Dr. II. w. Hchord, president of Westminister college; Dr. Taylor, agriculturalist and lecturer lec-turer for Deere & Co., of Molino, 111. ; E. B. Merril t, assistant commissioner com-missioner of Indian affairs, Washington, Wash-ington, D. C. ; Governor C. It. Ma-bey; Ma-bey; James II. Wallis, executive secretary sec-retary of tiie Utah Public Health association, as-sociation, with bis staff of co-workers and educational motion pictures along health improvement line; Attorney At-torney Frank Evans of the Utah Stale Farm bureau. Recreational work and games will be in charge of Coach Joseph Jensen of the Agricultural college. He will conduct contests iu horseshoe pitching, pitch-ing, volley ball, push ball, etc. It is expected that Irwin L. Hob-son, Hob-son, noted specialist on boys' and girls' club work, will conduct a department de-partment along these lines. Other features will bo the band music, quartets, orchestras, community com-munity singing, daily play hour, baseball games and n big Indian pageant depicting the progress of the Indian from the time that the white man firjst arrived until the present time. Tiapsbooting contests between the Salt Lake Gun club nnd tbe clubs of I the basin also will take place. |
