Show ESCALANTE CniT CHAT BY FAY ALVEY The weather is quite nice in the day time and cool nights, .some folks like it but the stockmen and farmers say "too dry", there seems to be only one weather condition that everyone agrees on and that is wind, no one cares for that. We had some during the week,, scattering the dead leaves and dust every which way. Cattle, are still moving, both in trucks and Being driven horseback; Jim Gates was home for the weekend trying to get his under control. Erma went along to gather pinenuts. The old Sox Spencer home, the log one there on Main St across from the Ruf je Listort home has been converted In-. to a Recreation Center by some of the strangers who dwell here, most of them live in trailer houses and don't 1.i ve loom to entertain t home so they .solved the problem by renting that hme from the Mohr Christen-fens. Folks are still going on vacations, the ,Reed Wooleyj and son Ronnie have gone to California to spend tha Thanksgiving holiday with their son Neal and family; the Gall Balles and family went to Mesa, Arizona to visit their daughter and son-in-law, the Bobble Porters, their daughter Elaine who is working In Hawaii will meet them there and they plan on having Thanksgiving dinner with the Evan Petersons. Mrs. Myrtle Hunt and a lady friend from Blandlng were here last week visiting old friends and neighbors, they used to live here, her hurband, the late Oz Hunt was foreman on the CCC Camp; Myrtle lives all alone, her youngest daughter Wanda lives in Blandlng, it really seemed good to see her again. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Willis went back to Salt Lake City to see their son Blaine off for his mifslon anu take Maurine and son to catch the plane for California. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Marsh stayed up there while their son Sharon Dale was in the mission home, Dale's folks are In Brigham. Among those having business in Richfield last week were the Vic Cot-tarns and daughter Dianna, AldenMoyes, Grant And Alma Listen, Usher Spe-jr. Arthur Mclnelly, the S. J s and Betty and Johnny Alvey. Lloyl Gates has gone to Salt Lake City, to visit his wife (continued inside) ESCALANTE Dema. Lcda Pratt has a new station wagon and is gathering up and delivering cleaning for the Munson Cleaners. Mary R. Mclnelly returned from Salt Lake City where she attended the wedding of her granddaughter. Aunt Susan Heaps had weekend visitors, her daughter and son-in-law. Ethyl and Rotls Durfey of Wayne County, Aunt Susan plans to go to Boulder for Thanksgiving. Neta Haycock and her mother Clarice Griffin went to Panguitch to at tend .a Tupperware party put on by Afton Church. Sheriff Middleton was over last week, didn't ask him his business but he looked real pleasant There are big loads of machinery and trailer houses going through here down the Desert to the new Oil Well site, reports say it is to be located between the Forty mile dance hall and the Sodie, most of the workmen will be flown by helicopter from Greenriv-er, Robert Liston got on as cook, the only local man so far to get employment on it. Leah Griffin has a job taking the Farm Census here and Boulder, if she could find folks home it wouldn't be so bad. The Walter Leibenguths and family made a business trip to Panguitch Saturday. There have been several neighboing High Schools bring assembly programs here and present them to the local students, and the local ones under the direction 'of Julie Morris, music teacher are preparing to take one to get even with them. Billie, Barker and the Clayton Porters were home for the weekend from the Temple in St. George, Lots of folks are hustling around trying to get ready for company on Thanksgiving, still others are planning to go away if the weather stays nice. Walter Svedene, High School Principal is the new J. P. and acting cop while Reed is gone, the community is certainly using Mr. Svedene while we have him, he wa? one of the speakers In the North ward Sacrament meet Ing Sunday, also PTA president Helen Shurtz, Warren Woolsey and Ruth Griffin. There was a Stake Welfare meeting held here in the North ward, we were short handed in the Relief Society section so met with the men and listened to them discuss the financial problems of the Welfare farm, we could see that we had the light end of it making clothes as ordered. D.r Mason of Panguitch was in town last week.
