SHOW TIMES Mon.-Fri.: 7:30 & 9:45 Sat. & Sun. 1:00, 3:05, 5:15, 7:30, 9:45 Campus police step -up security Because of recent bomb scares at the "Up With People" concert and "Peter Pan," the campus police have stepped up security measures on all campus events. Lee Cassity, chief of campus police, said his officers are checking all buildings prior to events for possible bombs. He said they had always searched the DEC before games and concerts as a precautionary measure, but now they will be doing the same for the Fine Arts Center. According to Cassity, the search consists of seat checks, lighting and sound system checks, checks on all areas where a bomb might be placed. This will be done whether there is a bomb threat or not, he said. He feels the four previous threats were only threats, but he is not ruling out the possibility one might turn out to be real. "Ninty-nine percent of the threats won't be any problem," he said. "It's the one percent to worry about." When a threat does happen during a performance of some kind, a letter is read to the audience. In it the audience is asked to check under seats for any objects that might be there. Then they are given the opportunity to leave, with the option to come back if they wish. If an object is found the Hill Field Bomb and Demolition Group would be notified along with the Fire Dept. and Paramedics. No audience yet has had to be evacuated because of a bomb threat, said Cassity. The campus police have no suspects on the four bomb threats last week. Cassity feels it's "somebody with a grievance against the college." Benefit concert scheduled For the fourth year now, the Weber State music teachers are playing a benefit concert to raise money for a Weber music student. Last year's recipient of the award was Bonnie Williams, a vocal student. The concert, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Little Theater, will feature music of the romantic period. Tickets are available at the Fine Arts ticket office, Dunkley's Music and Harmony House. Prices are $2 for adults and $1 for students. |
