Show Page 2 DIXIE SUN Friday, May 18, 1990 'nda, News iml JJ Dixie College Honors Community Leaders St. George Dixie College will honor three community at the 1990 leaders Commencement exercises to be held June 2, in the Dixie Center Burns Arena. President Douglas Alder will give Distinguished Citizen Service awards to Dr. Willice E. Groves, Barbara Wilson Watson and Wendell C. Gray. "These outstanding individuals have given so Alder. said much," "Graduation is a perfect time to recognize decades of service rendered by special people who love Dixie College." Dr Willice E. Groves was born in Mexico City, Mexico, in on the research faculty of the University of Michigan for eight years, and also taught Physics and Mathematics at the Church College of Hawaii (now BYU Hawaii) for four years. In 1972, Dr. and Mrs. Groves moved to San Diego, California, where he was one of the founders of the Institute for Continued Learning (ICL) at the University of California-Sa- n Diego. In 1976, he and his wife moved to St. George, Utah, where he founded the Dixie College Institute of Continual Learning. Since that time he has served as a permanent member of the governing body of Dixie 1909, While his father was engaged in building the College ICL. They have five children, 19 railroad between El Paso, Texas and Mexico City. He grandchildren and 19 greatgrew up in Los Angeles, grandchildren. Their children California, attending are: Richard A. Groves, St. Polytechnic High School. George; Donna Jeannine Groves Johnston, Houston, Texas; Philip L. Groves, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Kathleen Groves Tuffs, Bremerton, Washington; David G. Groves, Simi Valley, California. Barbara Wilson Watson considers herself a native of St. George, although she was born in Salt Lake City. She met her husband, Leon Milne Watson, at the University of Utah, where she was majoring in History and he in Pharmacy. After graduation, they moved to St. George to enter the family business, the Medical Center, and recently was appointed to the Trustee Council of the Utah Hospital Association and the Board of Trustees of the Dixie College Arts Council. Barbara and Leon have three children: Kyle Richard contribution to young men. Wendell has served as David Leon Watson, He the Symphony Players. has been with the Symphony since its inception in 1981 and has served continuously on the Symphony Board of Directors during that time. Groves married Mable Arvilla Gill of Salt Lake City in 1929. He worked as an engineer at Radio Station KSL in Salt Lake City from 1929-193and as chief Engineer until 1942.
