My headline and stoiy both said that Back to School Night was Thanks to the North Sevier Jaycees, our area was privileged to hear and compare the candidates who were and are vying for positions of leadership in this area or in the county. I am going to try to remain calm as I write this. I just want to ask: Who was it who told a photographer that the bus to the Moab Girls Volleyball Invitational was too crowded? the few persons who attended the primary candidates night with the sheriff and justice candidates came away with no hard feelings, others admitted that they had either Although some of changed their minds about whom they were going to vote for or became more committed to those already in their good graces. Now that the primary is over, we believe a Meet the Candidates Night is just as crucial as before, if not more so. As a newspaper we have been asked to do profiles on each candidate so that the public can better compare. This we will do as election day nears probably in one or two stories. We believe, however, that our job is to cover the campaign as it happens. It is not our job to create or embellish the campaign. We encourage the Salina Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, Jaycees, Jayceettes, Sorosis and all other organizations to seriously consider sponsoring another Meet the Candidates Night. An actual live comparison of the candidates, listening as they answer pertinent questions and explain their positions on key issues of their offices, is one of the best ways to separate the political wheat from the tares. We will be there to cover it as a bonafide part of this years election campaign. What is your opinion? This newspaper welcomes opinions from its readers concerning any subject pertinent to southern Utah. While there is no restriction in length, we request good judgment and letters which are to the point. Anything of a libelous nature or defamation of character must be avoided. Letters must be signed, but if the writer requests, his name will be omitted.
