The Horned With four undefeated teams Frogs and the Broncos battled going into the bowl season, all season to make it to where they are today—undefeated and deserving of a shot against some of college football's perceived "big boys." But of course, the BCS wouldn't want that. However, this puts them in between a rock and a hard place. A year ago, when the Utes went undefeated in the regular season, the Broncos did as well— but only one team made it to the BCS. Despite going undefeated, Boise State did not play for a national championship, and it didn't even get invited to one of the top four bowls in the country. Now fast forward to the present, and the Broncos have not only gone undefeated in the regular season again, but they are also ranked lower than a Mountain West Conference opponent who also went undefeated. What is the BCS to do? Cover its ass and invite both TCU and BSU, but here's the kicker—invite both to the same bowl. By inviting both teams to the Fiesta Bowl, the BCS kills a few birds with one stone. First, by having the two play each other, the BCS ensures that two automatic qualifiers don't lose to two non-automatic qualifiers in the same season. Could you imagine the backlash if both Boise State and TCU won separate bowl games—both over automatic qualifiers from BCS conferences? "BCS busters" are already 3-1 in BCS bowl games, so what would happen if they went 5-1? It would be a black eye for the BCS as well as all its conferences. Second, the BCS ensures that even if there are three undefeated teams in the country, when it's all said and done, two of those schools will be from BCS conferences. If the BCS wanted to pair up two undefeated opponents, why not put BSU or TCU up against Cincinnati? By TCU playing Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl, though one will be crowned a champion after the game, there really will be no winner. If TCU wins, critics will look at it as a victory but argue that it came against a team that plays in the WAC FOOTBALL that kept Utah in the game. Johnson finished the game passing for 226 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to go along with a 19-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The win was sealed when Dale recorded the first interception of his career after Navy recovered an on-side kick in the closing moments of the fourth quarter. Dale finished the night with 10 tackles to go along with his lone interception. If Boise wins, skeptics will say that it didn't even come against a BCS school and that TCU didn't deserve to be there. In the end, though it was a great accomplishment for both teams to make it to a BCS bowl, it's unfortunate that we are all still at the mercy of the BCS this time of year, despite their great regular seasons. Congratulations to Boise State and TCU on spectacular regular seasons. They are both deserving teams that have earned a shot to prove how good they are.
