As I approached Milliron, I didn't know how he would react but knew that he was a good guy from previous interviews I had with him. As I introduced him to Ben and my wife, I was very impressed with the respect and courtesy he showed to them. He introduced himself, shook their hands and asked if they enjoyed the game. As I looked at Ben, I could tell this was like meeting a big-time celebrity for him. Obviously Milliron realized that as well, and offered Ben the puck that he had in his pocket that he scored his third goal with. Ben took it, thanked Milliron, got in the car and didn't stop talking about this for the rest of the night. As we dropped Ben off at his parents' house and my wife and I headed home, we found ourselves reflecting on what a great thing we just witnessed. I thank Erik Milliron for his shining example of what an athlete should be, especially to perhaps a future WSU hockey player in 9-year-old Ben. In a world where a good example of an athlete is rarely publicized, hopefully this one instance can show that there is still some good in the wide world of sports, and on this WSU campus.
