Show A N K in bor ath OZA 9 m d k i ia I nak storm t 0 r m hits ILI its park 80 r ark city A record breaking storm raged in park city and vicinity monday last it was simply terrific and with a north wind blowing it was bitter cold and the snow piled up and drifted in an alarming manner when the rio grande left the station monday afternoon the storm was awful and tears fears were wera entertained that the train would not get through to salt lake this tear fear materialized tor for when near Go gorza the train was stalled and despite all efforts nothing could be done to extricate the train from tile the huge snow drifts the freight train leaving park city shortly after tile the passenger collided with the passenger car breaking the steam pipes and greatly adding to the distress and discomfort of the forty passengers efforts were made at this end to have teams go from snyderville derville to the snow bound train to bring back the women nomen and children at least but so severe was the storm it proved a physical impossibility mrs geo B sheen and two children were on the ill fated train and because of the illness of little betty her daughter great anxiety was felt but friends wera vere powerless to render assistance 1 when word reached salt lake the officials of the company did everything in their power to raise the blockade and at one time there were two rotaries rosaries rot aries a wedge snow plow a I 1 flanger danger and eleven engines besides large crews of 0 but despite all this it was wednesday morning before the passengers reached salt I 1 lake being one full day and two nights in snow drifts it was sure Is hard experience one that will be remembered always by the unfortunate passengers no train reached park city until thursday morning to a 9 tribune reporter th the e following account was given by mr L lj R martineau sr a well known la lawyer T yer who had been in the park on business and was returning to his home on the belated train 1 I have had some unpleasant not to say painful experiences in my life said mr martineau but this little trip from park city to salt lake has set a new mark tor for me our train was stuck monday afternoon and we remained there or near there until a little before 5 yesterday morning of course we ran out ot of food and likewise out of fuel to warm the car some of us went vent to a nearby ranch house and obtained a little food which was divided among the forty passengers but this was not enough and we went dismally hungry the company sent us some sandwiches and coffee from salt lake but a gang of 0 workmen sent up to assist in clearing the ae tl track ate a large part of th the e supplies adaz before the train reached us added to all this a freight train ran into our car tuesday evening slid and a number I 1 of the passengers were thrown to the floor and bruised although none were seriously injured under the conditions I 1 do not blame the company it did the best it could I 1 guess but I 1 do not want any more such experiences and I 1 am confident that the other men on the car to say nothing of the women and several children feel the same way about it |
