Show By Marlene Haws 826-4859 marlenehcolor-country.net The Escalante population has grown this week by at least two. Jeff and Andrea Brinkerhoff have a new baby boy, born on Oct. 4. His name is Jaxon Richard Brinkerhoff and he has a bunch of grandparents ! Ferrell and Gwen Brinkerhoff, Tropic; Richard and Penny Albrecht, Minersville; and great-grandparents, Ora Brinkerhoff, Tropic; Reva Albrecht, Minersville; and Zona Jackson, St. George. Jaxon also has a sister sis-ter and two brothers at home. Mike and Holly Wall also have a new baby boy, Bryan Nathan, born on Oct. 6, and I feel like he is going to be full of surprises! First of all because he made his entry into the world at the junction of highways 89 and 20! And was delivered by his father Mike,, shortly after 6 a.m. They were headed for Cedar City, so they went on over to be checked out by their midwife mid-wife and were back home late that night. (When you see Mike next time check him out for some gray hairs!) Grandparents are: Richard and Orva Vincent, Pleasant Grove; and Mike and Linda Wall, Orem. Bryan has three sisters and one brother to welcome him home. Lora Engberg is walking like she never had knee surgery! And she is already working again. She has been employed part time by Turnabout and acts like a new woman! Robert Haws came from Grand Junction, Colo., to visit his parents Klyn and Marlene Haws. He came on Sunday and went back Tuesday. He and his dad even went on a little horseback horse-back ride, the first in a long time for Klyn. He said he was a little stiff and sore but he surely did enjoy it. Old habits die hard! There are lots of remodeling, renovations and face lifts going on about- town with the old buildings. It is surprising what a little paint and fixing up will do! The Community Center and Senior Citizen Center have just got a new central air system and a new roof. Makes a world of difference and they are not through yet! The old Charlie Bailey place is really taking on a whole new appearance. It's really looking good! And right across the street the new picnic tables in the park have been worth their weight in gold already. Dozens of tourists have stopped to take advantage of the shade, have their lunch and a little rest before resuming their trek to wherever they were going. Our citizens have made good use of them also. A real nice addition to our town's atmosphere. The Vining Bed and Breakfast is taking shape and Tom Mansell is adding rooms at his Inn.This morning it looked like Mark Liston had scaffolding scaffold-ing by his house and I'd guess the white trim will all be repainted next time I go by. It's fun to ride around and see the changes that are being made. All of you should do it! If you don't get to see your neighbors all that often, just . wait a while and sooner or later you will run into them at the medical clinic. Even if you have to go to Panguitch to do it. Just today, over there, were: Ron and Barbara Brubaker, Camille Shakespear, Klyn and Marlene Haws, Freland and Phyllis Alvey, and the time before: Margo Smith, and Rex and Ray Masters. Then yesterday everyone every-one was at the clinic in Escalante getting their flu shots. I was number 84 so there had been a lot of people there who were trying to ward off the winter win-ter ailments. I visited with Carla Griffin Day and her son, who were here to attend the festival last weekend. week-end. They had a booth and were displaying moccasins, purses, etc. made out of soft tanned leather. Carla is a daughter of Theron and Anna Griffin and lived here as a young girl. It was good to see her again. Relatives here received word that Eva Spencer Haws has passed away. You may remember remem-ber that her husband, J. C. Haws, passed away just a couple of months ago. They made their home in Brigham City, but owned the family home of Eva's parents here in Escalante. It is the white and pink house across the street from Eric and Sheri Woolsey. Our condolences to the Haws family. Rex and Ray Masters went to Panguitch last Wednesday for a doctor appointment. When they got back home they went to the eye clinic here to have Ray's eyes checked. As she was coming com-ing put of the clinic she slipped and fell. She was taken into the Kazan Clinic and checked out by "Doctor Bob" McCullough and he sent her back to Panguitch for x-rays. Nothing was broken but she had some sprains and a bump on her head. She is back home, but Wednesday was not a good day for her. We wish you better days ahead, Ray. Danny and Sherrie Meisenbach were here from Orapge, Calif., on the weekend. They visited with Sherie's parents par-ents Lane and Geraldine Liston. Jim Alvey and sons of Mapleton, visited Eva Dean Escalante From Page 2A Liston on the weekend and did some hunting while they were here. Owen and Pat Gonder went to Salt lake City last weekend to attend Owen's LDS missionary reunion. Pat had to be back on Saturday to meet with a group of postmasters. She will be hosting the i Utah Postmasters Convention here in Escalante next June and the group had their first meeting to begin the planning process. Don Mosier has been in the process of having cataracts taken off both his eyes. He got along well with the first one, but after the second one had a bad reaction and ended up in the hospital for surgery. He has lost weight but is doing better. When I told him he must be about my age he let me know that he wasn't that old! But he doesn't lack much! |
