Corn, hay and other crops still standing in fields can suffer heavy damage from careless hunting practices. "Grain prices aren't strong right now, and growers can't afford to lose part of their crop to hunter damage. ','The law requires hunters to get a landowner's permission before entering his land, and a reminder is printed on the hunting license. But some hunters go right onto private land without asking," said Frank 0. With paint or Hi Series with "No Tresspassing" signs. Against Long Beach State he caught Ave passes for 85 yards, a figure good enough to immediately move him into the lead as BYU's top receiver. Another concern for LaVell Edwards was replacing Clay Brown at tight end. He seems to have found a more than adequate replacement in sophomore Gordon Hudson. Hudson grabbed three passes for 69 yards, catch in the including a second quarter which eventually led to a f ieldgoal, in his varsity debut. The Cougars will be heavy favorites to win this week's game with Air Force just as they will be favored to win all of their other contests. But the chance always remains that they can get knocked off by a surprise team. Game time Saturday is 1:30 p.m. By the way Jim McMahon is in good condition. It was reported last week that McMahon might have broken his hand during the Long Beach State game but the latest word is that he is in excellent condition and will start at quarterback for the Cougars. "They may even tear up fences, damage buildings or equipment and injure livestock. Those actions are what causes farmers to close their lands to hunting, even if the 'slob' hunters are few in number." Nishiguchi reminded hunters that state law allows posting of land with the use of flourescent orange or bright yellow ' defensive linebackers have a great deal of speed. The linebackers must honor I he threat of the running hack coming through the middle but must also be ready for a play around either side of the field. If the play goes wide the defensive ends and the outside linebackers must not commit themselves too early lo sacking the quarterback because of the threat of thepilchoul. While Air Force generally isn't regarded as one of the teams lo win the WAC crown the Falcons are still capable of defeating any learn in the league. Air Force has a long reputation of losing to weak learns and then destroying some of the slrongesl teams in the country. If Air Force manages lo pull off an upsel in Provo on Saturday the WAC title will be up foi grabs. Ijast year after the New Mexico Ivobos stunned BYU in Albuquerque in the season's opener the Cougars had lo play the remainder of the season with their backs up against the wall. One more loss would have cost BYU Ihe WAC title. This year the conference is stronger and several teams, including Air Force, have a good chance lo defeat BYU. One of the most improved teams this year is Hawaii. BYU has to play the Rainbows in Honolulu later this season and that game could prove to be a difficult one for the Cougars. Air Force w ill have just as much of a problem defending against the BYU passing game as the Cougars will have containing the wishbone rushing attack. The Cougars have only one experienced receiver returning from last year's learn which led the NCAA in scoring, passing and total offense. That receiver, Dan Plater, won't be rotated into the games as he was last year but will be a permanent fixture in the Cougars' starting roster. But Ihe Cougars aren't hurting for pass catchers despite their heavy losses due to gradual ion. There are several new receivers with the Cougars who showed during the Long Beach State game that the BYU aeriel game will likely be just as potent as last year. Glen Kozlowski now plays opposite Plater at split end and he seems destined lo become a super star for BYU. He is Ihe first freshman in quite J. Buchanan W. SOON.
