sugar sugar companies explain that the contract they have agreed to this year Is just the same as that ot of last bear year except that it contains the bonus provision this makes it optional with the growers ot of each section whether they get theorice the price the farm bureau has asked which has absen call edth 48 52 basis or whether they are paid on the same scale as last year farm bureau officials particularly the sugar beet committee which has worked industriously on the proposed contract for the past few weeks are well nell pleased over the tha final acceptance ot of their proposals by the sugar companies according to ephraim bergerson president of the utah state state farm bureau and chairman of its sugar beet committee tile the bureau as a whole and the beet committee will now alee ake u up a campaign with the farmers to secure a large acreage in every beet section of the state this is to be a vigorous and enthusiastic campaign compa ign mr bergerson said he thinks that the growers will respond almost as a unit to the call ot of the state organization to grow beets sugar companies look for an unusually large acreage this year for many reasons first they say that the farmers are not getting a high price tor for other farm products and after the experience per peri fence ence of last year when the sugar beet production was very low there will be a return to beet growing the present market conditions indicate that all of the 1922 crop will be consumed and that the present years crop will all be marketed at a high price the production of beets last year was low compared with that of 1921 in 1921 the tha utah idaho sugar company produced tons of sugar while in the 1922 campaign just closed only tons were manufactured other utah companies figures are in proportion growers will receive a ton on i the of the mouth month for beets delivered to the sugar companies during the previous month the biggest beet pay day tor for the farmers in utah and idaho is
