It is the first step that is difficult, but after a great truth is revealed It makes rapid progress among those who get material benefit from its unfolding. DmiicKiicated fowls were soon known all over rhiiiit. They spread from there iiMu Corci, across the sea into Japan and later to all the islands of the Malaysian archipelago. As the conquering horde moved west to the conquest of Kunqie they brought with them their customs and attainments, their rude srts and their household possessions, and thus In time the domesticated fowl was known hII over tne tnen known world. The voyages of Columbus snd others, which showed the way, also brought with them the Invaluable feathered treasures of the old world. The Incas and the Aztecs, and Inter the North American Indian, were made iirquainted with the luxuries of roast fowl and other delicious products of e. But the new' world also the hud something in this line, though still In the wild state, which eventually proved a valuable return for the contributions of the older hemisphere. Sir Walter Raleigh, while wandering In the wilds of North Carolina, caught the first glimpse of the incomparable turkey. Some were captured and taken to England, .where the gourmands around Queen Elisabeth were treated to a new and exquisite feast. Roast turkey delighted the palates of old Lord Burleigh and Bacon, and even gave h new stimulus to the matchless Imagination of Shakespeare. The lords and ladies of the age were introduced to a table delicacy surpassing anything hitherto known to the critical connoisseurs. In the course of time the turkey, too, was domesticated and Europe sent It to the Asiatics in return for their previous contributions In the poultry line. From these countries it came back to America to take Its undisputed place at the head of all classes of domesticated birds, unchallenged king of the ynrd and the feast. The continuation of the story hardly needs telling, as all now know how muon nas been added to the wealth of the wold and man's food supply by the invaluable discovery of how to domesticate and make subservient the wild birds of the woods and the sea. hen-hous- HAVE ALL BEET GROWERS MADE CONTRACTS? naiijr yma dont lik- - U THE FOWL8 BECAME MESTICATED. DO- The time will soon come when the farmers who are going to raise sugar beets for the Amalgamated Sugar company will want to commence planting the beet seed. The present fine weather indicates an early spring, and the Sugar company should have the contracts all in at once, so they will know how many drills to send to each settlement and how much beet seed. Let every farmer get his contract at once without delay. The field superintendent has visited the settlements in Weber and Davis counties for the purpose of meeting farmers, but many did not meet him. Each Saturday the farmers can find Mr. Pingree in his office in the First National bank building in Ogden City. This matter should not be neglected. Countless ages ago some Mongolian savages while wandering on the shores of the Tellow sea. found curious oval globes of white and blue colors, which they first mistook for stones. Handling them In an aimless way, some fell and broke, thus disclosing that combination of albumen and yolk that afterwards became so familiar to the whole human race. The savages tasted, were pleased, and the egg made Its first appearance as food among the children of men. During their frequent future searches for more of these newly discovered delicacies.
