Show INDIANS AND THEIR HOMELANDS in the tha july 1933 issue of the utah historical quarterly published by the utah historical society appears an article written by wm will R palmer president of the parowan carowan stalls stake and a member ot of tile the board of control of the society entitled kahute indian homelands Hom elands revealing the problems problem ot of tile the indians when the white man settled southern utah with the result that the indians were driven from their homes people of today are like the old settler and conclude that indians indiana are just indians and they are all alike and we suppose that they tan aan a an wild and had no definite home or property rights or definite ter citory tor for their domain mr palmer paliner points out that utah was as aa definitely divided on property lines among tile the indians as it Is today and property rights w were ere quite as much respected by the indians as we now respect land titles the only difference was that with us the individual holds the land while with them the clan held all rights in common in a map prepared by mr palmer it Is interesting to riots note that the land which was divided among the different clans of 0 the indians indiana was the tha choice ground of the valleys which the pioneers selected later as aa settling places it Is supposed when the white man oame came that the indians could go somewhere else but there was only the deserts and ithe high mountains left where they could go and these places could not be used as aa homes by the indians for the same reason that the white man could not make his home there |
