Show PETITIONS PROCURE LENIENCYTOR BECK Youth Is Allowed to Plead Guilty to Lesser Charge Appeals from prominent cltixens of Lehl and his parents resulted In leniency len-iency for Fred A. Beck in Judge L. B. Wight's court today. Beck, who was originally charged with forgery, waa allowed al-lowed to plead guilty to the leaser offense of-fense of obtaining property under false pretenses and waa ienienre(LJopajr fine of I29K or to serve 160 days In the county jail. Beck with Deorge Oayaford was alleged al-leged to have forged the name of James M. Kirkham of Lehl to several checks and to have used them on Salt Lake merchants to purchase articles of fur J nlture. The check presented was al-1 ways larger than the price of the article ar-ticle and the difference waa pocketed, the Instruction that the article should be "sent ta papa" being given. Ittera were presented to Judge Wight today from the Freed Furniture company on which a $17 check was passed, from Mayor Gardner of Iehl j and from Attorney Hamilton Gardner of Lehl asking that leniency be shown i and the. boy saved from a penitentiary sentence. The boy"s employer in Halt Lake wrote that he had always found the boy reliable and would allow him to begin again on his job as soon aa the chargea were aettled. |
