Show sergt geo G felter give life for country sergeant george G felter a very promising young man who enlisted in this city died at albany oregon dec 19 1918 the sad news being convened to miss delia prince of ald bleton who was engage to him in a letter a copy of which follows camp 7 R newport ore dec 26 1918 miss delia prince st george utah dear miss tho enclosed cettei had no return address on it so I 1 took the liberty of opening it to determine the writers address it ls with deep sorrow that I 1 have to inform you that sergeant felter passed away dec he had the flu followed by pneumonia he had a host of friends among bis comrades who mourn with you the untimely end of so promising a career sincerely aleut wm stratton his commanding officer deceased was born at pleasant plain ohio and was the youngest son of mr and mrs owen felter of that place he had been a resident of southern idaho and utah for 12 sears coming to dixie in november 1916 he left for st thomas nov in march 1916 where he worked at farming and freighting he the army sept 19 1917 at st george and went to camp lewis wash where be was assigned to the field artillery afterwards being transferred to the aviation branch of the service at vancouver wash and from that branch to the spruce division his father mother and one sister are living in ohio and ho has one brother with the A E F in france the body waa shipped to hla parents at pleasant plain ohio the young man bore a splendid reputation here and made many friends he rapidly became sergeant after joining the army and had a bright future before him when death claimed him JOHN TALMAI MILES JR of st george wounded in action at st mablel para or an entertainment or the governors which will make utah live long and favorably in the memory of the state executives who attend the conference it was explained by tho governor that an invitation to tha conference was extended by the governor of alaska to hold the conference there and that secretary daniels promised to provide tho vessel necessary for the trip but be offered an amendment to the motion of acceptance providing that unless at least of the governors go vernora actually signified their intention of going to alaska the next conference coma to salt lake governor bamberger says he was given assurance that the required number for alaska will not be secured and that the state of utah may figure upon being hostess to the next governors conference in passing the governor remarked that the conference at annapolis was the largest gathering of governors that has ever been held following the sessions cessions ces of the conference governor bamberger and other governors in attendance were guests of the secretary of the navy at the grand review of the american bleet later governor bamberger went to washington and there discussed with federal and other officials matters of interest to utah and GEORGE G FELTER arnor personally took up with the secretary of war was the demobilization of the field artillery first utah at the agricultural college at logan the says that the secretary dictated a letter in his presence to the general in charge of demobilization work rec that the utah artillery be de mobilized at logan governor bamberger also took up with secretary lane of the interior the matter of government reclamation work in the west and urged that a provision be made whereby bona alde settlers on western lands whose lands might be incorporated within government reclamation projects be permitted to retain their lands and pay their pro rata of the cost of wat |
