Show WHY NOT opportunity with a great big 0 0 is loudly knocking 0 at the f front door jumping on the back porch and breaking in through the plate ta glass lass windows of bountiful are we at home do we hear her heaven be praised we are we do and with open arms and also with open pocket booksie books we are ready to receive her bountiful the beautiful is about to ome into her own things are about to happen not all at once not in a hurry but slowly steadily changes are coming 0 when we look at the ill kept anee meeting zing 0 house square the litter d up streets ane poorly kept yards manure piles on or nearly on the sidewalks rubbish dumped on the side of the main street of the city irrigation 0 water running in puddles down the roads the beautiful ma may y sound an ill timed occasion but if we go dee deeper r into the actualities there is asvery very v good reason for the name e look at her location with slopping ping green clad hills to the east lofty mountains I 1 to the north the wonderful panorama of lake mountain and plain to the west ever changing always beautiful when I 1 have 9 stood at early world grow light n the great awakening t of life at the first kiss of the sun opening budson buds on myrid flowering trees inspiring peals of praise from a thousand feathera fea there throats changing dew drops on rose leaf and violet to diamonds sparkling and rare I 1 have felt that bountiful the beautiful was no empty eu phem ism when I 1 have walked gre n u fruit boughs bending to earth under the heavy burden of harvest fields productive and green vineyards purple with clustering ca grapes bountiful the beautiful has seemed very real and after a weary day of toil when I 1 have pressed closed to the fresh sweet earth under some giant spreading 0 tree and watched the glory of sun sets unwatched unmatched for wierd mystic beauty and have felt the peace and quiet of god on the silvery lake as the darkening shadows draw in bountiful the beautiful gripped every fiber of my life as true take all these things into consideration breathe in gibat draughts of air fresh pure free f from rom smoke and dirt and you will realize that bountiful tho the beautiful is no fantastic dream but a present possibility waiting 91 only for enthusiasm will effort to make mahe it a far famed reality wo we want more people in bountiful ticul we want greater business activity a better market for real estate with increasing values we want better streets better kept homes more adequate estreet st lighting we want aa gas s brought here h ere for heating and cooking improved sanitary conditions more civic pride more public spirit we want all of these things and more and it is is going to take good hard money money to get them but dont you think they are wor worth thit it we greatly fear that art and beauty for art and beautys sake alone may p prove i rove an in insufficient bait to lure the many dollars from the closely guarded stocking 0 the effort is not worth while but beauty and art combined with an added income two dollars or more taking 0 the place of every one paid out is surely incentive enough to arouse interest estin in even the most unresponsive breast there are many things 0 which can and should be done the program t ram is an exhaustive one covering a period of years but one thin thing at a time and that well done we have in the center of town an ideal site for a public park the meetinghouse square is the most conspicuous object in the city bounded on the south and west by the street car line carrying hundreds of people to and fro every week Is there mayl ascone attract attractive ivo feature about it on the other hand is it not an ill kept disgrace 0 to a corn com as large and old as boun bonn ticul why not change allt all this bis why not make it a restful beauty spot that will attract visitors from salt lake just to see it would it not be worth wertll money to all of us to see in the seeing salt lake guide book bountiful the beautiful nine mine miles north cars leave every hour passing through magnificent 0 orchards fiel fields s and yards one or of the most beautiful city parks in the west why place not in the first pla cowe we have havethe the building 0 which alright its asu rather in its favor plant nt some me 1 small leafed ivy around in t two wo or three seasons it will willbe ve as green as an old eng li plant a hedge around the entire square and take takeout out all of the trees west of the meeting house lay out the grounds artisti artistically eally with a broad roadway winding paths large flower beds smooth green lawns and in the center in front of the assembly hall ball steps place a fountain plant a few graceful trees and flowering shrubs and on each corner at leas least have bave a cluster of electric lights 7 with others scattered through the grounds if possible east of the hall the trees should b be P trimmed and some removed and a public play ground laid out with for the mothers sand piles swings seesaws see saws etc for the eb children ildren in addition a bandstand could be erected and open air concerts given twice each week during 0 the summer what do you think this would do for the city for one thing the concerts would give an atmosphere mo sphere of life and gayety gaiety that would attract our young fol folks ks and often keep them away from other and less desirable places it would ito the ag aggregate regate increase the value of property at least it would awaken civic pride in everyone every one of us and would boost the city in in a material way more than any other thing which asat the pres ent time possible it would give a quiet cool pleasant resting c place for tired mothers and a well equipped health giving play ground round for the children A pleasant picture is it not one we should all like to see materialized now what will it cost the exact first cost has not been estimated but less than a thousand dollars in actual money will cover it and there is no question when the plans are fully developed that the people will gladly donate the necessary funds how shall it be done by a big public demonstration why not call it bountiful week make a whole week of it everybody turn out under al adequate equate supervision so that time and labor will be utilized to proper advantage 0 e men alen and teams outside bankers farmers doctors 1 lawyers awyers merchants everybody think of it two hundred men and boys and fifty teams all worling far kinf auld vs ulith ley ey not accomplish in a week ek the ladies all on the inside preparing big feasts with dances pro grams rams concerts theatricals every night A whole week of getting acquainted J having baving a good time learning what real sociability and accomplishing something we can all take a pride in and after it is accomplished how bow will it be maintained this is important in three ways the ecclesiastical ward now has a caretaker for the building the duties would be enlarged 0 to include clude the care of the grounds and play grounds the salary of the custodian would be met by the ward paying L the sun sum now ta given to tiie the caretaker the cit city assuming in a share and the civic league which is about to be organized paying the balance here is labor number one what do you think of it is it worth trying there is no use stating the issue we are asleep unless we awaken the great opportunity port unity now before us of making bountiful a beautiful suburban residence district and attracting to our midst the best home makin making element of the state will be lost J LLOYD
