The touchdown came on a pass toTerry Carter, and Craig HaskeU kicked the PAT. With just 17 seconds remaining in the first half Payson got possession of the ball on the Carbon 46 yard line. A reverse play moved the ball to the 26 yard line, and then Mike Daley ran up the middle to the ten yard line. Time was called with one second on the clock which gave the Lions a chance to try a field goal. However, the Lions faked the field goal and holder quarterback Jim Durrant pitched a perfect pass to Terry Carter for a touchdown which gave Payson a 19-- 0 half- time lead. The second half brought more thrills and evcitement for the Payson fans. Early in the third quarter the ball changed hands with a Dino fumble, but on the following play Carbons Mike Tammllos intercepted a Joel Crouch pass and scampered to Carbons 38 yard line, only to have the drive fail at the 16 yard line. Payson then started a march of 86 yards in eight plays with Weight Olsen, and junior fullback Dick Armstrong interchanging running tactics which eventually culminated in a touchdown. Kay Riley booted the PAT. The Lions scored again in the third quarter when Mark Etherington intercepted a Jim Borla pass and scampered 35 yards for the score. Riley again converted and the score was 33-- 0 In the third quarter, the coachs son, Jim Durrant, took over, and he continued the scoring rampage when he went to Dusty Spencer and Tim Lafferty for two more six pointers which moved the score to Champions of the Junior Gladstan Golf Tournament, Steven Johnson and Vickie Crook.
