Show 3B THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, January 15, 1987 Elsie And Lowell Mines Mark Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary The family of R. Lowell and Elsie Rushton Mines are announcing the 50th Wedding anniversary of their parents. An open house will be held January 31, 1987 at the Murray 11th ward meeting house, 5750 South Nena Way (Main Street), from 7 to 9 p m Lowell and Elsie met in July of 1933 in Murray. They dated through their high school years and enjoyed many activities together. Lowell is the seventh child of William and Josephine Mines of Murray. He grew up in Murray and graduated in 1935 from Murray high where he lettered three years in football and track, and two years m basketball. city as a power plant operator. During this time he also worked part time as a house painter and later e became a painter. Work became scarce and in 1954 he joined the Murray City Police Force from which he retired in 1978 a with the title of Captain after 24 years of service. In 1954 (the same year he became a policeman) he also joined the Murray City Volunteer Fire Department from which he retired in 1979 after 25 years of service. Elsie graduated from Cyprus high m 1934. Her other died the following November and Elsie cared for her five brothers and father until the summer of 1935. Their main activity since retirement has been traveling, including crusmg the Carribean and Alaska, bus tours to the eastern and southern states, and vacationing in Hawaii and Canada They have been members of the Ute Salt Shakers Chapter of the Good Sam Club and have enjoyed many trips in their motor home with this group. They have both been active in the Murray City Firemens and Policemens associations. Elsie has been a member of both auxiliaries During his high school years he worked part time for Murray City and full time after graduation. He went to work for the Utah Woolen Mills in 1936 as a foreman in the finishing department and remained there until World War II time When it became compulsory to get into defense work he went to work at the Remington Arms Plant until it closed in 1944, when he went to the American Foundry After receiving an injury in the foundry he went to work for Murray She moved to Salt Lake where she worked as a waitress at Schramm Johnson Drug Store and later the ZCMI Tea Room. She is the 8th child of Walter J. and Jennie Rushton.
