Show TWO IN BIG CELEO UTION mrs wayne shui tz and miss mamie foy hurt in sham battle mrs mary alice 25 wife of wayne of escalante had a small piece of her left elbow shot away and the bone at the joint quite badly shattered when she was hit bit by a blank cartridge from the gun of one of the indians in a too realistic sham battle which was part of the pioneer day pageant at escalante and mamie foy 14 also of escalante suffered a flesh wound in her left lef t shoulder from a blank cartridge mrs was immediately brought to the richfield hospital by her husband and her father W M thomas of circleville Cir cleville the physician who was called to dress the wound expresses the belief that the arm can be saved but it may be left a little stiff mrs was able to leave the hospital wednesday and was taken to the home of a local nurse mrs lyman parker where her mother and husband also are staying the foy girl was vas taken by her aunt mrs J E riding of escalante with whom she makes her home to panguitch were dr C bigelow gave her medical attention the escalante people were vere very sympathetic with the injured woman and girl and the elaborate pageant races and other events with which the community was celebrating the day were called off immediately following the accident mrs airs and mrs airs lizzie porter had charge of a group of beehive Be ellive girls who made up part of the pioneer camp which was arranged in true pioneer fashion on the public school grounds at escalante A group of boys representing indians had encircled the camp callip once and in true indian fashion had gone away only to return with louder war whoops and wilder vilder shooting for a hand to hand fight the indians who used blank cartridges in their guns had been instructed by their chief to fire into I 1 the air but became excited eci ted and let et a few shots run wild resulting in the injuries the screams of the two injured persons were taken only as realistic acting and no one came to their aid for several minutes |
