upon by the joint board oi of interstate highways utah Is liberally recognized thanks in large measure to tile the activity of P G peterson member of the joint board and of utah a highway commission the plair approved makes salt lake city the hub ot oe n great interstate highway system from which will radiate two united states higi highways ways running easterly into colorado one northeasterly into wyoming another north to pocatello tho the wendover road going west and a new nev route southwesterly to ely nevada while to the south will run two distinct highways one the zion park highway leading to los angeles and the other through ka nab to connect with the old east and west trail at flagstaff arizona all of these highways are to be marked united stes highways and all will be pl plotted eted on official maps to be ready next season with the view to cone concentrating on brating tra ting automobile travel as much as ag possible to these main routes being thus stamped with federal approval it Is to be assumed that federal aid will be concentrated cent rated first on these roads until they are brought throughout to a high state of perfection those parts ot of them still requiring improvement and federal aid will also be employed in marking these highways as well both highways leading into colorado will run southward through salt lake valley to payson at about alch which point they will fork the northly erly route going east cast through tile the heart art of the uintah basin though duchesne myton and vernal and on to craig colorado the more souther IY y route will swing owing to the southwest and price and crossing the state line lead to grand junction southern routes men park highway was the one southerly route conceded to southern utah ah but mr peterson point near deal reno where it will join tilt the victory highway through nevada it follows the route of the lincoln highway this road will have tho arrowhead row licad trail at santaquin San wendover route tile the wendover road the last ot of tile the routes out of salt lake city follows the line of the victor victory highway through both utah and nevada and merges with tile the lincoln highway at reno wyoming has one united states highway crossing the entire state that running west through cheyenne via rawlins ns green river to granger where it forks one route running southwest to salt lake city and the other cipher northwest to pocatello at rawlins another highway makes oft northwesterly lander and washable Wash Was akle bakie to the south entrance to yellowstone park A third highway running north from cheyenne passes through casper bonneyville bonnerville Bonne to grey bull where it forks one branch running west to cody and the east entrance to yellowstone low stone park the montana in southern idaho one united states highway will cross southern idaho following mainly the line of snake river the two roads leading to pocatello one from salt lake city and the other from ranger granger G wyoming will merge at mccammon AleCa nimon and run north to pocatello thence through american falls twin falls mountain home balse and caldwell and extend to payette there this road forks three ways one route going west across central oregon a second swinging northwesterly through baker and lagrande to the columbia highway while the third turns north through welser weiser Orang orangeville eville lewiston moscow couer collor dalene bonners ferry and on into canada through eastport East port at lewiston a branch highway takes oft off to the left and leads through walla walla to the columbia river in washington from pocatello still another united states highway leads north to idaho falls where it branches the east branch running through ashton to the west entrance to yellowstone park the westerly branch runs north through dubols dubois on into montana leasing through butte anaconda and missoula soula and then swings west to couer collor dalene and on to spokane still another northern montana highway swinging to glacier national I 1 park through Kall spell and libby joins the north and south highway hig liway at bonners ferry while the joint board has no authority 0 o appropriations it estimates that an additional appropriation pria tion of will have to be made by congress to bring the entire system ot of united states highways up to first class condition the greater part ot of these roads are al 1 ready highly developed but there are links in utah and elsewhere not yet in condition property properly to servo serva as aa isaks in the united states highway system and some ent entirely leelY new stretches ot of road will have to be built it Is expected congress will ho be asked to for r the additional funds next sess lonso this work may be
