Show The turn which things have taken with Editor Stead, of the Pall Mali Gazette, is comical. He spent much - money and time in exposing the wickedness of London Lon-don and in trying to reform her, and for his pains he is now standing trial for the j very thing he sought to expose. Stead I seems to be what in America is generally called a crank. There can be no doubt but that he was thoroughly sincere in his exposures and believed them, and that he thought he was doing philanthropic work. Even when such exposures ,as he made are. true there is a grave question as to the propriety of . making them,, as'., the evil consequent thereon .is almost as great as the evil Bought to be remedied.. But it is a farce to try. him for the. abduction ab-duction of the Armstrong girl. |
