Show Senator Chaffee's Burial. Detboit, March 15. The Evening Jour-naFs Jour-naFs Adrian special 3ays: The funeral of Ex-Senator Chaffee in this city yesterday afternoon was well attended. From 12 to 1 the remains were exposed to view,. and a reat many looked for the last time 'tipon ) the face of the dead. The red cedar casket with the rich mountings bad a silver plate bearing this inscription: "Jerome B. Chaffee, Chaf-fee, . born 1825, died 1886." A quartette opened the services at the residence of A. H. Wood by singing " Nearer, my God, to Thee," after whiohKev. -Dr. W. W. Chase read an appropriate scriptural selection and spoke briefly. The choir continued the service ser-vice by singing "Jesus, Lover of My Soul." At Oakwood the services were concluded with prayer and the benediction. At the vault the little daughter of U. S. Grant, Jr., a granddaughter of the deoeased, placed a bouquet of water lillies upon the casket. . |
