Show ' The Yellowstone Natural Park. Chicago, February 1. The Secretary of the Interior to-day transmitted to the Senate Sen-ate the report of Mr. W. Hallet Philips, special agent to inquire into the condition of the Yellowstone National Park. In view of the fact that there is no well-defined legal authority in the Park, he recommends the appointment of two Commissioners to administer justice within the Park in cases not involving misdemeanor, with somewhat of the same authority as was conferred upon the Commissioners in Alaska. Attention is called to the open violation of the regulation prohibiting the sale of intoxicating liquors within the Park. He is decidedly opposed to allowing railroads to enter the Park, as they are destructive of its beauty and not called for by the public. |
