Show THE CITY SOLOSS. Proceedings at the Council meeting Held Last Night. The city solons . met in Council at- 7 o'clock last evening, with Mayor Sharp in the chair. T. C. Bailey, agent for A. N. Hamilton, petitioned for the privilege to lay off 120 acres of land opposite the warm springs into blocks, lots and streets. Referred to Public Grounds Committee." Mrs. Ann Rideout, a lone woman who makes a living by peddling butter, asked for a free peddler's license for one year. Referred to License Committee. John Kav stated that he conld not make a living by physical labor as his health was very poor, and asked for a free merchant's license for one year. Referred . George G. By water presented a certificate certifi-cate which stated that Joseph Smith, a machinist, had been stricken with partial paralysis and could not ply his trade ; that a free peddler's licence for twelve months' was asked. Referred lo the proper committee. com-mittee. M. R. Murray & Co. and J. A. Fitzgerald Fitz-gerald were granted retail liquor licenses. W. T. Harris and Samuel G. Read, both aged merchants, and unable to pay license for the privilege of running their stands, asked for the free rights within the city, and the matter was handed to the License Committee. . The Police Committee stated that they had examined the Justice's report for September, 1885, and found it correct. The Canal Committee and Water-masters presented similar statements of expenditures ex-penditures on canal, etc. The Committee on Public Grounds and the Watermaster agreed in their expend itures at Liberty Park for the "three months ending August 31st. The Street and Alley Committee reported re-ported favorably to establishing gravel walks and crossings on Third South street and it was ordered done. The Street and Alley Committee reported re-ported the Street Supervisor's report for the last quarter ending August 31st to.be correct. H. E. Giles was granted permission to put weigh scales on Third West street in the street just over the culvert. The Committee on Irrigation reported the Watermaster's report correct. The Committee on Irrigation reported that the canal running through the property prop-erty of John Fry, F. Langton and others, in the Nineteenth ward, had been attended at-tended to so that no inconvenience from overflows would be experienced. Mrs. M. A. Burt, for feeding city prisoners, pris-oners, 1,191 meals at 15 cents each, was allowed $178. The Street Supervisor's contingent fund was donated $1,000. The like fund of the Watermaster was given $500. Adjournment taken for one week. |
