Show An Old Lady's Horrible Death. ' Mrs. Martha Taylor, an aged widow lady living on the Twentieth ward bench, lost her life shortly after dark last Tuesday Tues-day evening by being burned to death. The unfortunate old lady was in the habit of smoking a pipe as a comforting solace. and it is thought she must have fallen asleep in her easy chair, when some fire from her pipe fell in her lap, which set her clothes in a blaze and awoke her. She ran out into the yard and fell down m her endeavors to extinguish the flames, which had reached her body and were" fast consuming her clothing. Some boys near by gave the alarm, and Dr. Holland a"d hisj wife, aa wen aa otherg including the old lady's son, Jabez W. Taylor, came to the scene as soon aa thev rnnlrf hnf ,n too late to prevent her death some four hours later m great agony. Mrs. Tavlor was 82 years of age, and had resided iiere for the past 20 years, most of the time by herself. At the coroner's inquest held yesterday afternoon a verdict of accidental acci-dental death was given in accordance with the above facts. |
