Show Reunion of Stephenson' Regiment j New Yoke, Oct. 27. The annual reunion and dinne of the Society of Survivors of "Stevenson's California expedition of 1846," known'as the First Regiment New York Volunteers, Vol-unteers, that served in California during the Mexican war, was held last evening, it being the thirty-seventh anniversary of the discharge dis-charge of. the regiment in, California. General John C. Fremont and Major Edward Ed-ward C. Kemble. (Fremont's Battalion), founder of the Alta-California in 1843 ' at San Francisco, were guests. Major Clark, president of the society, presided. His annual an-nual report showed that seven deaths occurred oc-curred during the past twelve months, while during" the same period six comrades recorded under the title of "whereaboutstm-known," "whereaboutstm-known," had been heard from and their names' added to the roU of "sumvors. Of the 844 who served with the regiment, there are.160 survivors, 110 of whom live m California, the remainder being residents of States east of the Missouri river, ine aggregate wealth of the 160 survivors is about I ten million dollars. The greater part of the survivors are in good circumstances and en- gaged in active business. Joseph Evans, secretary, read letters received from many comrades of the Pacific coast, as also some from western States. On the 9th of September Septem-ber lasfc,"California Admission Day," Colonel Stevenson deposited the colors of regiment with "Society of Calif ornian Pioneers" at San Francisco, to remain in their custody for all time, with the request .that at his , death the colors be placed upon his casket during the burial service. |
