Deputy Marshals - Smith and Mix, armed with an all-powerful United States warrant from Commissioner McKay, dropped down in SpringviUe yesterday morning and arrested Nicholas Groesbeck, j on the charge of unlawful cohabitation, j from January- 1st. 1S83, until December j 1st, 1885, with Rhoda Sanderson, Cor- j nelia Sanford and Kate Houtz, in the ! marriage relation. Groesbeck was arraigned ar-raigned before Commissioner McKay last evening and furnished bonds in the sum of $1,000 for his appearance this m$rn-ing, m$rn-ing, and was let go for the night, Spencer Clawson and John Clark becoming sureties.; Groesbeck has served his adopted church and religion faithfully, and since returning from his island mis- i sion he has encouraged polygamy at all times by practice and precept and has three of the handsomest women . known to all Utah. . . He was held in the sum of $1,500 to appear ap-pear before the First District Court, which meets in Provo next February. The bond was signed - by John and William Groesbeck, Groes-beck, his brothers. A host of witnesses are held by subpoena sub-poena to appear before the Grand Jury of the First District. |
