Show YICTORIOUS TORIES. Ga'"? Throughout Great Britain Wbich Show a Great Political Reaction. London, November 26. The London News attributes the defeat of the Liberals to the Church and Parnell vote, but says there is no need to despair if the Whips and Radicals Radi-cals maintain their elective unity. Later reports make tho net Tory gain twenty. Placards are already posted all over the country, giving the results of yesterday's elections, and pointing out in glowing terms THE IMPOBTANCE OF TOBY VICTORIES. - . Some of the methods adopted by the Tones To-nes for rousing theenthtisiasm of the electors elect-ors are novel and sensational. J. Blundell Maple, a prominent dry goods merchant, who is the Tory candidate in the South Di-Jision Di-Jision of St. Pancras, provided immense lunuture vans with seats, cushions and decorations dec-orations to convey electors to the polls, and they were crowded ali day. Several Tory candidates hired steam fire engines, whioh rushed madly through the streets with bells clanging and whistles blowing, while men clinging to the engines showered Tory leaflets leaf-lets upon the crowd. It is an open secret that Queen Victoria anxiously hopes for the success of the Tories Tables now distinctly show that the result of the elections so far is that 84 members of each party have been elected. Among the Conservatives are Poleston, of the old firm of J. Cooke & Co., and Louis J. Jennings, formerly of the New York Times, both former residents of America. |
