Show TO THE PUBLICAn PUBLIC-An Appeal From the W C 1 U for Books One of the departments of the W C T U is prison and jail work Nowhere else is this more needed than in the Utah Penitentiary since no chaplain is provided pro-vided and prisoners of all grades in crime are herded together without employment em-ployment The Union here has taken up this work and made Miss Lydia Payne superintendent We have arranged for meetings on the second and fourth Sunday of each month and provided for the distribution of papers tracts and Bibles but much more is needed The pressing demand is for a good library The warden and marshal have promised to furnish a bookcase if we can procure the books For these we appeal to you Reader can you not give us one or more books for so good a purpose Look over your stock at once and see how many you can spare I you have none can you lot give us money and books will be purchased by a judicious committee The best fiction biography history and travels are most desirable Books can be left at C H Parsons book store or with any of the pastors or given to members of the Union We want one hundred volumes now Will you help You say yes Well do it before your good resolutions pass away C S BURNETT President MRS TERHUNE Secretary |
