Show DR FOOTE SENIOR Of New York In Sal Lake CItY From Dr Footed Health Monthly for April Before the ink is fairly dry on this paper Dr E B Foote Sr of 120 Lexing tonAve New York will reach Salt Lake City The main object of his visit is to ascertain the real status of one who has for some time been advertising hims las l-as Dr Foot Jr Daring his stay however how-ever Dr Foote Sr will be pleased to j see his old friends and patients and readers read-ers of his wellknown works Plain Home Talk Medical Common Sense Science in Story etc etc A Dr Foote Senior has an established practice I at home which he cannot leave without great inconvenience this visit is unusual and affords a rare opportunity those of his friends and readers who wish to consult con-sult him to do so without incurring the expense of a trip to New York Meanwhile Mean-while let us inquire WHO IS DR FOOT JR Dr E B Foote Sr has a son who has been for ten years associated with him in conducting a large special practice in the city of New York Dr E B Foote Jr has won a reputation for himself as a lecturer writer and inventor Several wellknown publications bear his name asa as-a thor and for years he has been famil iarly known as Dr Foote Jr not only in New York but throughout the United L States and territories where his publications publica-tions have been widely circulated and as I widely read or where Dr Footes Health Monthly is taken I was therefore a matter of startling surprise not only to Dr Foote Senior and Junior in the East but to many of their friends patients and I readers in the West when in the summer sum-mer of 1884 Dr Foote Jr was announced an-nounced in a Dakota newspaper and later in the papers of Salt Lake City For instance in-stance The Leader of Bismarck Dakota I said in its editorial columns The Leader inadvertently neglected on Saturday Sat-urday to mention the arrival in this city of Dr E B Foote Jr of New York Dr Foote has taken rooms at the Merchants Hotel where he Swill S-will be pleased to receive calls from suffering sufferng humanity and cheerfully give advice and < reat inent lime Doctor is a son and the professional 1 partner of Dr E B Foote of New York of Medical Common Sen e fame and is said to be one of the very best specialists of the age His fa ther has long been known as the very best au thority on the diseases of women and the Doctor is said to have inherited his parents knowledge to 1 remarkable degree Now i it was an inadvertence on the part of the editor that this remarkable announcement was made it was clearly the duty of the Dr Foot Jr referred Ito I-to in the article to correct the mistake and if he had believed that he could lose caste or professional standing by having his name associated he would have made haste to do so Drs Foote Sr and Junior of New York at once took pains to acquaint the editor that a mistake mis-take had been made Soon after this the socalled Dr Foot Jr made his announcements an-nouncements in the papers at Helena Montana to which place he seemed to have gone from Dakota At once a special edition of The Health Monthly was prepared and sent to the addresses of all our Helena friends and correspondents informing them than the selfstyled Dr Foot Jr had no connection with ourselves our-selves After this expose we were soon informed that Dr Foot Jr had opened an office in Salt Lake City and I styled his place Dr Foots Medical and Surgical Institute No2 Now WHERE is DR FOOTES INSTITUTE No1 I there is any noted place which can bear this name except our own at 120 Lexington Ave New York we have never heard of it I there is one why have not our correspondents asked us about it No sooner had this socalled Institute No 2 been socaled opened and announced an-nounced than letters were received from our friends in the West making inquiries about it In one instance they were about to tender the use of a hall to Dr Foot Jr thinking he was the junior of the wellknown author and practitioner Dr E B Foot Sr of New York If then we are so quickly informed of I U stitute No2 bearing our name with only the terminal letter e at the end of the name Foote omitted why has there been no inquiry of us respecting Institute No 1 if there be such an institution outside out-side of our office in New York As ofce A sample of the inquiries received we ap pend the following from Ogden Utah I send an Ogden City Herald with an adver tisement of Dr Foot Jr Who is wih I thought it was our Dr Foote at first and was about in viting him to call on us in Ogden but upon looking more minutely I found my mistake I think however there seems to be an intent to deceive I should like to know On receiving this and similar letters we sought to obtain a Utah Directory for the purpose of notifying the people of Utah that the Dr Foot Jr announced in their papers was not in any annouced way connected con-nected in kin or business with Dr E B wih h Foote Sr of New York B Not many weeks after we received from Kane Co Utah from a postmaster who isasubscriber to The HlWlh lfor1 lily Monthy the following missive which he wrote came to him by mail SALT LAKE CITY UTAH Mr P M Dear Sir sent from San Francisco lately inquiring i he was the son of the wellknown Dr Foote of New York Here is the response and the reader will note the equivocation DR FOOTS MEDICAL AND SURGICAL INSTITUTE he did not want to be under very stood as being related to Dr E B Foote of New E n t York I indeed his father had achieved note as a specialist he would specalst have naturally wished t emphasize his
