Show THIS MORNNGS FIRE A Stable In Fin me But Promptly Squelched A fire which broke out on Fifth East street today was promptly squelched by the Fire Department before any serious damage was done Shortly before 1 oclock this morning the sight of flames breaking through the rear of Mr Dukes stable on Fifth East between Second and Third South streets arrested the attention of a little boy of the neighborhood named Frank Hougli ton He immediately gave the news to Inhabitants of the house of Mr D who telephoned the alarm to tIme City Hall The first alarm was given to the Fire Department at 95o and at 1 05 the engine was drawing water from the hy drant on the corner and throwing a full stream into the loft of the stable with a 45pound pressure on the boiler Tne fire had no time to make much headway head-way and the two frame buildings only a few few feet distant on than south side were saved without a scorching The neighbors supposed the fire to have originated through spontaneous combustion com-bustion but a little boy was evidently evi-dently inclined to the belief as he expressed ex-pressed it that Tom was smoking up I there Be that as it may the Fire Department De-partment deserves great credit for its I prompt and effectual action |
