Show DOMESTIC General Hazen Before The CourtMartial GEN GRANT IMPOVINC The Backbone Land Grant Gets a SetBack THE STRIKERS STILL ON The Railroad Strike S KANSAS CITY March 10Troops from St Louis were brought to Centre Town within 30 miles of Sedalia where they now are quartered in the cars Later tonight to-night an armistice waS agreed upon until noon of the 14th of March at which time the strikers are to have an answer Governor Gov-ernor Marmaduke and General Jameson are to act as mediators and see what if any compromise can be made PARSONS Ks March 10The strikers on the Missouri Pacific remain firm They have been very quiet today It is rumored rum-ored tonight that they have ordered all engines and men along the line as far south as Muskogee to come to Parsons for protection and also that after tomorrow tomor-row no passenger trains will be permitted to pass except the engine and mail car This morning Superintendent Golden and I Sheriff Lnmpson attempted to fire up an engine and take out a freight train but were not permitted to do so ATCIIISON Ks March 10No change in the Missouri Pacific situation here The striking shopmen still hold possession posses-sion of the shops and locomotives and are preventing the moving of freight trains Railroad officials are waiting developments at other localities on the line of the road ISo effort is being made to have the Governor call out the militia as it does not appear necessary GALVESTON Texas March 10The Gaheston News Dallas says The section sec-tion hands here employed on the Texas Pacific struck here this morning on invitation in-vitation of couriers who passed throu hon h-on a hand car The strikers drew the fires from three engines The company will attempt to recover the engines tomorrow to-morrow and begin moving a number of idle trains A call issued tonight by the Friends of Labor for a mass meeting Thursday The object is for raising funds to assist the strikers at other points who are reported as suffering for breadstuff Bloodshed is apprehended A Palestine special says the yard shops at that point are now charge of Sheriff Davis and deputies who took out several trains today The strikers have been excluded ex-cluded from the yard At Marshall today the county and city officials were notified by the railroad company that if the civil authorities do not intervene to break up the strike and I pany J1 will hold the county S liable S i for Ham t ages arising from the interruption of business busi-ness On receipt of the notice County I Judge Keller interviewed a committee of I strikers who assured the Tudge that no I violence was contemplated The civil I authorities thereupon decided not to interfere in-terfere This is regarded as a victory for I the strikers whoremain quite firm MOBERLY Mo March 10 Notwithstanding Notwith-standing the Missouri Car and Foundry Company who have leased the Wabash railroad shops here and will hereafter conduct them have announced that they are ready to receive applications for labor irrespective of past or existing troubles not one of the men who struck some days ago has applied for work Although Al-though there is no doubt that they could obtain from the car company as good or better wages than they demanded from the railroad company they say they will not resume work until the former wages are restored to every workman on the entire j I en-tire Wabash system and claim to have advices that by tonight or tomorrow every workman on the Wabash road will be on a strike ST Louis March llR S Hayes senior vicepresident of the Missouri Pacific Pac-ific railroad in an interview on the strike said The main question in this strike is one of personal liberty or whether a handful of men who are not satisfied with their positions as employees shall be allowed al-lowed to prevent other men who have no expressed cause for dissatisfaction from continuing at work Out of the 25000 employees em-ployees of the Southwestern and Wabash j systems not 1000 are directly affected by the reduction of wages which is alleged 1 to be the reason for the strike and i am certain that of this 1000 at least 500 would go to work tomorrow if they were not restrained by their bulldozing co employees The reduction made is in regard to men in the machine shops and round houses The train service hands have not been reduced The reductions have been principally in Texas SEDALIA March 10 Negotiations for a compromise between the road and men are now going on |
