Show Proclamation by the Mayor The following proclamation was issued this afternoon by Mayor Sharp WHEHEAS Saturday next has been designated desig-nated as the day for the solemn final obsequies obse-quies of that illustrious soldier and statesman states-man General Grant and WHEBEAS I is fitting that the people of this city have an opportunity to join with the people of tho Nation in manifesting the deep sorrow they feel at this time of great National affliction and bereavement and in I expressing proper respect to the memory of him who won the proud distinction of being the foremost citizen of our great Republic Now therefore I James Sharp Mayor of Salt Lake City do hereby request that Saturday Sat-urday August 8th 188j be observed in this city as a day of public mourning and suggest sug-gest that during the memorial services on that day all unnecessary labor be abandoned that stores saloons and business places be closed and trade and commerce be suspended suspend-ed and I recommend that the citizens attend at-tend and participate in the ceremonies to beheld be-held at Liberty Park and unite in paying a last tribute of respect to the memory of the departed heroIn hero-In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the corporate seal of Salt Lake City to be affixed this 5th day of August A D IBSfl JAMES SHARP SEAL Mayor By the Mayor H M WELL Recorder |
