Show THE CHICAGO STRIKE r The Strikers Enlarging the I Gulf and Their Numbers I I r THE SABINE PASS HURRICANE Hundred of Houses Washed Away and Many Lives Lost Twenty lYIcxicaUs Shot by Order of the ove ru then t I r The Chicago Strike CHICAGO Oct 15The situation at the i stook yards was further complicated this morning by the rufusal of 1200 beef and sheep butchers employed by Armour to go to work The Knight of Labor Barry sent hero from Richmond to try to effect a settlement set-tlement says ho is satisfied he can do no good here as the packerswill not treat with him as au association and he will leave for Richmond immediately to lay the case before be-fore the Knights convention Tho order of tbe beef and sheep killers to strike this morning was confined to the Armour establishment estab-lishment The beef departments of the other houses are running as usual This is taken as an indication that the fight by the Knights is being directed solely against I Armour and the latter states it as his view that the General Assembly of the Knights of Labor will not countenance counten-ance this move as he declares the situation I is the same in all houses and that the only difference is that his firm is employing a I larger number of men than any other The Armour firm is not attempting to operate either its beef or pork killing departments this morning The firm now has 600 men at work preparing goods for shipment but announces that it will start up all branches as soon as a sufficient number of workmen have been engaged and to this end is offering offer-ing large inducements to men to enter their employ The firm does not expeot to be able I to resume in all its departments for two or three weeks |
