Show J RESOLUTIONS REGRET The CltFr Council of laDlaz o Kcsoloot Over Judjjc Powers From the minutes of aregular meeting ofih City Council of Kalam z < Oll ch held on the 10th inst we extract the r following in regard Utahs new Judge resignation of Hon Orlando W Powers as city attorney was then presented pre-sented Mayor DeYoe stated that he heard the I resignation with extreme regret but that circumstances beyond the control of the I council had made it necessary for Mn Powers resignation to be accepted Alderman Al-derman McCaffrey with much regret moved the acceptance of Mr Powers resignation and offered the following resolution WhEREAS Hon O W oweittjSj cently elected city attorney of KalamazOD r has tendered his resignation and goes I from onr midst to fill the position of associate as-sociate Justice of the Supreme Court of therefore Utah f 1 Resolved That while we regret to lose I the services of so able an attorney and L counselor whose experience in this field I of lalaor makes his counsel peculiarly valuable val-uable we yield to the higher call which L has been made upon him and in accepting accept-ing his resignation wish him God speed I in his new field of duty Resolved That we share with him some degree of the high honor conferred upon I him and the city by this appointment though it takes from us a most valued L counselor and esteemed citizen Resolved That the City Clerk be instructed I in-structed tn onfrrnea this im imKlp and re solutions transmit a copy to Judge 0 W Powers and that the same be spread upon the journal Adopted Judge Powers then addressed the council coun-cil as follows Mr Mayor ahd GentlemenOf Council Coun-cil I can do no less than to thank you for the tribute that you have tendered me and I can do rio more for the sundering sun-dering of the ties that bind me to my home are more painful than I can express ex-press I came here twelve years ago friendless and here I found friends warm true friends No people could have been kinder than I have found here in this beautiful city When Heave I feel that I part with friends and friendship friend-ship cannot be purchased with silver or gold It is harder for me part with you than it is for you to part with me Whatever I What-ever record I have made in life I have made here Whatever I am I owe to the good people of Kalamazoo If I succeed in the future I shall owe my success to you and those whom you represent I go from here to my duty I shall do the best I can My ambition will be to do right and Ishall strive to be a credit to my friends |
